5th Annual Good Old Fashioned Neighborhood Picnic September 18 |

The thought was at the forefront of the typewriter's thinking. Could we host a corn roast with so much going on that same weekend, September 17 and 18? Love Livonia rock party at Ford Field sponsored by Parks and Recreation and the Chamber of Commerce on the evening of the 17th. Then the Inaugural Tour De Livonia on the morning of the 18th.
The phone calls started. First Ted Davis called to say we "want to continue with the Corn Roast." Okay. Then the Mayor called with an idea that this antique Royal typewriter became excited about when mulled over. So it was time to meet with Ted Davis to discuss the details.

The 5th Annual Good Old Fashioned Neighborhood Corn Roast is set for 12:00 - 4:00 on Sunday, September 18th at . . . .drum roll. . .Bicentennial Park, immediately adjacent to and to the north of the all-new Ben Celani Inclusive Playground.
The corn roast will serve as the first opportunity Livonia residents will have to see this beautiful well-planned park. Our community booths will be adjacent to the parking, ample, next to the tennis courts and dog park. The Parks and Recreation Folks will provide a golf cart limo to take our corn-roasting visitors 100 yards to Celani Park.
Then the phone call came in from Councilwoman Laura Toy, the Dean of the Council. She has agreed to serve as the Honorary Chair of the Corn Roast, with an appropriate name badge, Kernel in Chief.
Around the same time as this was happening, our anonymous community benefactor called and said he would provide 100 t-shirts for the volunteers working the booths. At the same time, this CAB offered to provide the corn.
Rotary AM offered to provide the beverages for the day and to staff the beverage pavilion. Councilman Jim Jolly will once again sponsor the Kona Truck.
Clarenceville Girls Softball team is on board to help with shucking. Dan MacIver volunteered to coordinate the corn shucking. We are on our way.

Groups started dropping a dime. Seedlings Braille Books, Livonia Kiwanis, Civic Chorus, Treasure Hunters, Livonia Symphony Orchestra, Greenleaf Commission. Robert Johnson Livonia's acoustic guitar entertainer is leaving that date open to perform at the Roast.
Each issue of Musings will announce more groups as they come available. But one more needs to be shared. The Hardies Family Trust will once again be the headlining sponsor allowing us to mail out invitations to new residents of Livonia.
Mark your calendar for September 18. Tour De Livonia is starting at 8:00 (over 16) and 8:30 (under 16) and then the Good Old Fashioned Corn Roast at 12 noon and the opportunity to meet up with 30 community organizations, sample some roasted corn and check out the new Celani Park.

The typewriter is starting to believe that it is really going to happen—Livonia's Inaugural Production of Romeo and Juliet.
Actors are perfecting their acting skillset, memorizing their lines, and being fitted for costumes.
The bleachers are set up on three sides of the stage. Yes, for those who want to sit there and not bring blankets or chairs.

The tents are set up backstage for the actors to change. I am so excited as this is a real production, produced by Livonia Parks and Recreation, headlining sponsor by Hardies Family Trust with additional sponsoring by Community Financial Credit Union.
Let's give some credit to the Producer Allison Boufford, a Churchill and University of Michigan graduate, and the Director Kyle Fisher-Grant who has studied Shakespeare Theatre in London.
It is going to happen. Hopefully this year and many more to come.

See you on Friday, July 29th at 6:00 when the typewriter and bodyguard arrive to have dinner, from the food truck of course, and then watch the performance at 7:00. Oh, yes the bodyguard will have a cooler with some beverages for the warm evening. Iced tea of course. |

In a non-competitive setting, there will be two courses cycling enthusiasts can choose from:
Full Route: 17-mile course (ages 16+)
8:00am - 12:00pm for $30 per person.
Family Route: 7-mile course (all ages)
8:30am - 12:00pm for $20 per person.
Cycle through parks, golf courses, neighborhoods, and past notable Livonia landmarks. Helmets are highly recommended for all participants.
Proceeds will benefit Livonia Kids and Families.

Mental health, rehabilitation weekend
The typewriter is off for a long weekend in Colorado to spend some time with the Joyner western branch.
It is Paul's birthday and has been a few years since I got to spend a birthday with Paul. First he lived in California for ten years, then Colorado.
When you open today's Musings I will be in Colorado. So no issue next week Monday and Wednesday as it will be a long mental health, rehabilitation weekend.

Touch a Truck
August 27
The typewriter is partnering with our community anonymous benefactor to provide 2,000 Mattel Hot Wheels, just as was done and was so popular last year.
The typewriter has made the arrangements for the Hot Wheels and now needs your help in passing them out to the children as they arrive at Greenmead.
If you would like to be a part and have an hour to volunteer starting at 8:00 and ending at 2:00. Just one hour.
Looking for 32 volunteers, 4 per hour. If you want to be a part of Team Musings and help out with this awesome project click on this link and let me know.

- have your non-profit group set up an information booth to meet and greet residents looking to find out more about what Livonia has to offer
- have your ever shucked corn? We will start at 8:00 when the corn is picked up at Westborn and dropped off ready to prepare for the roasting. Need 10 volunteer shuckers for 2 hours--and you get all the corn you can eat.
