"Without reflection, we go blindly on our way, creating more unintended consequences, and failing to achieve anything useful."
-Margaret J. Wheatley
|
|
The cacophony of competing agendas makes it seem like I am watching a ping pong match. A match that at times moves with the silent speed of molasses or with the thundering destruction of Niagara Falls.
|
|
There is a whole cacophony of sounds and tastes that I just wish would somehow come together to form something beautiful. Make it one agenda.
|
|
But here I am without having a peaceful quiet corner. I find myself drifting meaninglessly in front of the competing crowds each arguing that their agenda is the only right one.
But which one? Neither willing to blend or bend. Why does it have to be either or? Why not work together?
|
|
As I drift I find myself devolving, no longer an advocate for the positive but rather finding my identity moving further down into a darkness where the noise does not allow me to hear my own voice anymore.
Am I just pleasing those who demanded a distorted version of reality, writing only to please one side or another?

Let's go golfing and support those supporting others.
|
|
By way of explanation
. . .
|
. . . . . about the commentary above. Musings had prepared a timeline and the resultant escalation that followed each step since the initial march supporting Black Lives Matter. But after sitting on it for a day the realization was that we were getting caught up in the weeds. The issue is too serious to get caught up in the lines that have been drawn. Instead Musings will report on all that is good in our hometown including individual initiatives that make our hometown welcoming to diversity, in all areas, clubs, organizations, government; encouraging all residents to get involved and take ownership of the entire community. The above are the feelings the typewriter struggled with all day, just as many of our readers have expressed similar struggles.

Time to get ready for the annual Online Auction benefiting Seedlings Braille Books for Children
|
With so much going on in our hometown of serious issues including discussions of diversity and the return to school in September let's take a look forward to an event in November. November 10 through November 17. The election will be over, school will have been open for two months and hopefully getting ready for some outstanding Thanksgiving dinners.
Let's help raise $20,000 to help provide 2,000 braille books for children with vision loss by donating easily mailed items such as gift cards and gift certificates for Seedlings Braille Books for Blind Children.
Online Auction! Yes, this typewriter can surf throughout the day and night hoping that no one out bids my donation. Every year it never works. I am out bid consistently.
So, by notifying you of this auction 3 months early there is a reason. Let Seedlings know of what you have to donate, gift cards or gift certificates. Make them really good so I have something to bid on. I like pizza, especially like Adiamo's, and for sure Corsi's and Luigi's. Well, you reach out and let's make this an awesome pandemic success.
Seedlings annual Online Auction opens at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020. Bidding takes place until 10 p.m. (EST) Tuesday, Nov. 17.
Have questions? Contact them at Info@Seedlings.org or call 800-777-8552

Mayor Brosnan reports on the progress of
our new DPW Building
|
You can tell that Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan is excited about the new DPW building on Farmington Road. Let's have her tell us just how excited in words that she posted on Facebook:
"Hard hats and heels was almost the theme for today’s walk-about at Livonia’s NEW! DPW Building.
"In about a year we will have a state-of-the-art headquarters and customer service center where residents can pick up barricades for block parties, recycling bins, engineering permits and meet with the Water & Sewer Board.
Can’t wait!"

County Commissioner Candidates pick up endorsements for November election
|
In keeping with the policy of FridayMusings we are happy to share endorsements of candidates seeking office. When candidates either provide their endorsements or post them on Facebook we will include them in an issue of Musings.
Nancy Darga, candidate for Wayne County Commissioner, Democrat
, offers her appreciation for an endorsement by the Sierra Club. "I am so proud to be endorsed by the
Michigan Chapter of the Sierra Club
and look forward to working with their members to deal with the environmental concerns and enforce ordinances that could potentially save Wayne County millions of dollars to taxpayers."
|
Incumbent Wayne County Commissioner Terry Marecki, Republican
, passes along her endorsements by local elected officials including Livonia
Council President Kathleen McIntyre, Council members Scott Bahr, Jim Jolly, Cathy White, Treasurer Lynda Scheel, Northville Supervisor Robert Nix.
Because the only candidates running for County Commissioners are Darga and Marecki, with no primary challengers, this race will be on the ballot this November.

Livonia Lions host Governor Dave Wilbert at the 2020-21 induction party
|
Livonia Lions Club members enjoyed a BBQ Social and Awards ceremony held at President Matt and Kathleen Collins' home.
District 11a1 Governor Dave Wilbert was in attendance to induct the new Lion officers for 2020-21, presenting Lion Matt with the Golden Key award for sponsoring 25 members, and installing the newest member, Lion Caitlin, pictured above.
|
Lion Matt presented Lion Dina with the Lion of the Year award, as well as the Melvin Jones award; both duly deserved with her excellent example of true Lionism.
Lion Matt also presented Lion Greg, pictured above right, with an award for 10+ yrs as a Lion.
Matt Collins says that there was "A great time was had by all."
Anytime you can have the Governor of your District share time and award hard working members of the organization you have to know that you have done a great job.
Well done Matt Collins.
