Joyner has spent most of his life, now 73, dedicated to improving the life of others, Executive Vice President of the Michigan Jaycees, Lt. Governor Michgan District Optimist International, Wayne County Commissioner, while helping define quality of life in the towns he has called home.

Joyner has written community newsletters since 1993 starting in Plymouth with Confluence: the blending of realism and idealism, that was written in partnership with Plymouth City Commissioner Dennis Shrewsbury.

He says that he doesn't intend to write anymore after November 15, 2023.

"I’ve thought about this decision for a long time and have had many conversations between myself and the bodyguard" he wrote.

"I believe that the time is right to move on. On a personal level, at the conclusion of the city election I will have worked on community projects for nearly 50 years since first serving as Assistant to Mayor Ed McNamara after graduating from CMU. And while my energy and passion for community participation is as strong as ever, I realize that those years have been long enough to accomplish most goals and short enough to not tempt complacency."

15 months. Sure to be an exciting year.
Fine Arts Gallery at the Bennett Civic

The August artist, Vasu Toila, has a very exciting collection of abstract art to share. The Gallery is bursting with color! Exhibit through the month of August, reception this Saturday, August 6, from 2:00 to 4:00.

A very beautiful exhibit awaits you at the Fine Arts Gallery in the Bennett Civic Center Library. Vasu Toila is a contemporary painter who is constantly evolving her style. She lives in Michigan. Originally from India, she migrated to US for furthering her medical career. She was a very successful academician, mentor, clinician and researcher.

After retirement, she became interested in art. Use of vibrant colors and geometric shapes is her hallmark to draw the viewer in to her stories on this visual journey of strokes, lines and vibrant colors inspired by people, the world and travels.

Vasu has received many awards for her works in local, regional and national competitions including best of shows several times, artist of the future award, published in several magazines.
