Tour de Livonia to cycle through city.
If you would like to be a part of history and volunteer there is a need for you as well.
Both cycling enthusiasts who are looking for a new course and families looking for a good, local bike ride are invited to join the inaugural Tour de Livonia Sunday, Sept. 18, starting at Bicentennial Park.
This new Livonia event offers riders two options from which to choose, including an approximately 17-mile course (ages 16+) at 9 a.m. or the approximate 7-mile course (all ages) at 9:30 a.m., as they cycle through parks, neighborhoods, and past notable Livonia landmarks. Helmets are required for all participants.
“Tour de Livonia brings the community together for an enjoyable ride through the city,” said Ted Davis, Livonia Parks and Recreation Superintendent. “Both serious cyclers and families will enjoy this new activity, and we’ll raise money for a great cause through Livonia Kids and Families while having fun!”
Proceeds will benefit the Livonia Kids and Families organization. Register by Aug. 31 to secure your T-shirt. The cost is $30 per person for the 17-mile course and $20 for the 7-mile course.
Tour de Livonia is sponsored by AlphaUSA, Healthy Livonia, Livonia Parks and Recreation, Livonia Police, and Livonia Kids & Families.
“As a Livonia-based company, we look for opportunities to collaborate with organizations on events and programs that enhance the quality of life in our community,” said Chuck Dardas, president and CEO of AlphaUSA and founder of Livonia Kids & Families. “We are honored to support Tour de Livonia and participate in this fun family event.”
There is also a need for volunteers, like maybe 70, for registration assistance at the start of the ride and experienced sweepers to ride along and assist the riders with maintaining speed and separation. 3 weeks to get ready for the 5th Annual Touch-a-truck

Touch A Truck, a hands on family event, is an event organized by Churchill High School's Rotary Interact Club. The Livonia AM Rotary club, in conjunction with Greenmead Historic Village, is excited to assist these young leaders in what has become one of the most successful events in the city of Livonia!
There is a quiet time from 8:30 until 10:30 to allow those children who are sound sensitive to come out and enjoy all the vehicles including public service, emergency, construction, military, utility and so much more.

Chuck Dardas, President and CEO at AlphaUSA, will be bringing a race car and will have the driver on hand to showcase and answer questions.
FridayMusings has partnered with an Anonymous Benefactor to provide 2,000 Mattel Hot Wheels to youngsters attending the Touch-a-Truck.
Volunteers who have signed up to help pass out the Hot Wheels include the typewriter and bodyguard, Jim Baringhaus, Madeline Acosta, Brandon McCullough, Kate Shishkovsky, Liz Jarvis, Cathy Karasinski, Barb Iovan, Kellie Whitlock, the Amazon Livonia Fulfillment Center. History comes alive at Greenmead.
Civil War history that is.

Check out this scene from a 2019 Civil War re-enactment at Greenmead Historical Park.
You can get a similar glimpse of the distant past Sept. 24-26 at Guns n’ Gowns. This event will show off infantry and artillery the way the military operated more than a century ago, and attendees can interact with both military and civilian living historians.
Guns n' Gowns returns 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday the weekend of Sept. 24-25 at Greenmead Historical Park. Study period fashions, shop a rummage save, and experience medicine and surgical techniques used in the past while also learning the history of several flags.
Presented by the 17th Michigan Company E. Volunteer Infantry and the Livonia Historical Commission, this event is sure to open some eyes with a fun look at how things were several generations ago. No tickets or registration is necessary for this free event.

her primary race against Velma Jean Overman.
