Livonia Lions commit to Year 5 of Good Old Fashioned Corn Roast |

Dave Zarek, President of the Livonia Lions along with Jerry Pfeiffer, a Livonia Lion and one of the co-chairs of the Livonia 1976 Bicentennial Commission, an outgrowth of which was the designation of Bicentennial Park at Seven Mile and Wayne Road, met up with the typewriter to go over plans for the Lions Club corn roaster wagon. At the meeting with Zarek and Pfeiffer the Lions Club was presented with a $500 donation make possible through the generosity of our sponsors the Hardies Family Trust and the Community Financial Credit Union.
46 years ago when Livonia appointed a Bicentennial Commission Jerry Pfeiffer was Vice President of the Livonia Jaycees and was a natural to share his leadership with the Commission. "It is so cool now that with the Corn Roast taking place at Bicenntial Park we will have one of the co-chairs of our community celebration for the 200th Anniversary on hand playing yet another key role in building community," the typewriter explains.

Details continue to come out for the
Tour de Livonia
As we move closer to the Inaugural Tour de Livonia more details are being worked out and presented to those wanting to be a part of what could possibly be a major promotional event on Livonia's landscape.
Organizers are asking that we let riders and those interested in riding know that the routes are perhaps too long for the littlest bikers. Also, know that if your smaller children want to ride they should not ride with training wheels.
This ride, with the route being organized by professional bike riders in concert with the Livonia Police Department, is designed with the safety of bikers paramount in the minds of all involved.

2 1/2 weeks to get ready for the 5th Annual Touch-a-truck
August 27
Touch A Truck, a hands on family event, is an event organized by Churchill High School's Rotary Interact Club. The Livonia AM Rotary club, in conjunction with Greenmead Historic Village, is excited to assist these young leaders in what has become one of the most successful events in the city of Livonia!
There is a quiet time from 8:30 until 10:30 to allow those children who are sound sensitive to come out and enjoy all the vehicles including public service, emergency, construction, military, utility and so much more.
Volunteers who have signed up to help pass out Mattel Hot Wheels to children attending include County Commissioners Glenn Anderson and Terry Marecki, the typewriter and bodyguard, Jim Baringhaus, Madeline Acosta, Brandon McCullough, Kate Shishkovsky, Liz Jarvis, Cathy Karasinski, Barb Iovan, Kellie Whitlock, the Amazon Livonia Fulfillment Center.

World Polio Day Community Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser October 26
Each October, all Rotary clubs around the world are challenged to donate their time, funds, and voices to help End Polio Now. To that end, the two Livonia Rotary Clubs, Noon and AM, will be holding their annual World Polio Day Community Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser.

The proceeds of which will help eradicate Polio in the small parts of the world where it is still being found. The event will be held at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church on Farmington Road in Livonia. Volunteer and ticket sale details to follow.
With the recent identification of 100 new polio cases in New York the efforts of Rotary International and our local Rotary clubs takes on a renewed signifcance.

Pohutsky is Cracking Down on Price Gouging
Right before the legislature entered an in-district work period, Senator Jeremy Moss and State Representative Laurie Pohutsky introduced legislation that would prohibit excessive pricing for certain energy products, like gas, during spiking market trends. Under this bill, purposeful price gouging would be a misdemeanor and could result in jail time and a hefty fine.
Specifically, HB 6305 defines gouging as “an unjustified disparity of more than 20%” between an energy product or service being sold and other comparable products and services before, during, or after a market disruption.
During emergencies and threats to our communities, such as natural disasters, incidences of terrorism, or declared states of emergency, unscrupulous actors currently hold too much power to artificially inflate the costs of goods or services, preying on people’s fears. This bill would add protections against, and penalties for these practices in the energy industry.

Kids often live in the world of comparisons – seeing themselves as “better than” or “less than” someone else. Judgement with a feeling of “less than” leads to self-criticism and self-doubt as kids see everyone else as “better than” they are. This destroys self-esteem as kids fail to see their own uniqueness, gifts, and talents.
During this 90-minute workshop we will:
Read the story, “The Sun, The Wind and The Rain”
Engage in group discussion
Participate in a fun group activity
Make our own “The Gift of Me” board
Share what you’ve discovered about your own uniqueness

This workshop will be offered on Aug. 16 and Aug. 30. Please register for only one session.
