The people, the language, the culture, and the rich history of Lebanon surround us every day in Michigan and has enriched our lives through the influence of our Lebanese neighbors. The explosion in Beirut has broken our collective hearts, even those of us who don’t trace our roots to the Middle East, because our family, our friends, and our neighbors are in pain. That pain is only magnified by the knowledge that, in addition to the Lebanese people, countless refugees from Palestine and Syria living in camps in Lebanon are also hurt by this tragedy, one that has closed the largest import/export location for food and assistance into the country - the port in Beirut.

The typewriter while sitting in downtown Livonia West, the Tuscan Cafe-Northville, watched as bikers, runners, walkers strolled through town at the early time of 6:15.
While drinking my iced green tea the realization hit me. It was time. I had to do it. And do it NOW.
Research had been going on for weeks so I headed out to the bike shop with the bike I wanted. Not just any bike. An electric bike that would help with the pedaling. Not take it over but provide a boost.
Picked it up having used the anticipated, hoped for, and know it will come second stimulus check to pay for it.
Couldn't wait for the next morning and my first ride. And I was off. And it was exhilarating.
This was the first bike ride since 1985. 35 years ago when I sold off my Raleigh ten speed.
Never looked back until that one day. Sitting at the Tuscan, reading Facebook and the biking, kayaking, running of Mike Rudell. Every day he shared stories of the trails, the trips, the fun.
I had to do it. I did. My first ride through the neighborhood was awesome. The bodyguard could hear me blocks away as I shouted out in happiness, Love it, Love it, Love it.
Got home. Tried to get off. Made the mistake of not getting a step through bike. Fell after my first ride. Nothing hurt. I laughed as I stretched out on the ground. Laughed that it had taken me 35 years to ride a bike again.
No pain no gain. Love it.

Her love for the library started at 16 and continues today with her appointment to the Livonia Library Commission. Meet Carrie Budzinski.
|
In her own words lets share the excitment of Carrie Budzinski on her appointment:
"It's official, I'm a library commissioner! I've wanted this position for many years and I'm excited that it finally happened. The library is my second home. I started as a page on my 16th birthday and had so much fun for nearly 6 years.
"I grew up at the Civic Center and made friends that feel like family and are legally family! I started dating Danny after 5 years of working together and if only for him it has a special place in my ❤️.
"I love bringing the boys to the library and am so excited to help support efforts to make it a fun, safe place for people of all ages to gather, study, learn and play.
"Send me articles and insight. I have ideas but always ready for more."
The typewriter comes from a family that loves reading. Dad Joyner served on the Livonia Library Commission for 20 years. Congratulations Carrie.

The DIA INSIDE/OUT returns to Livonia
|
The Detroit Institute of Arts’ popular program Inside|Out returns for its 11th year, which brings high-quality reproductions from the DIA’s collection to outdoor venues throughout metro Detroit including Livonia. The first community to host this exciting exhibit of art 11 years ago was Livonia when the program was first initiated across southeast Michigan.
Inside|Out is a popular component of the DIA’s community engagement efforts. Over the past 10 years, the museum has partnered with more than 100 communities and engaged tens of thousands of residents with art in places where they live, work and play.
There are seven art pieces from the DIA in Livonia. They are located at City Hall, the Robert and Janet Bennett Civic Center Library, Rotary Park and Jack E. Kirksey Recreation Center. Download your own DIA Art Finder map and check out the beautiful art pieces.
