The Livonia Jaycees present "Best Laid Plans". This is a 1920's Hollywood Murder Mystery Gala. The event is being held in the memory of the late Renee Geisinger. A member of the Livonia Jaycees who had a passion for helping children with autism.
There will be a 3 course plated dinner with vegan and gluten-free options available. There will also be an open bar, a red carpet with a photographer, DJ, and a dance floor. There will even be a 50/50 raffle!
Proceeds from this event will benefit The Living and Learning Enrichment Center in Northville. They are an organization that helps children with autism develop the skills needed to live more fulfilled lives.
FAQs
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?: There is an open bar so IDs will be checked at the door.
Is there a Dress Code? There is no official dress code however, the theme is 1920s Hollywood. Think Great Gatsby style glamor. Feel free to dress up in your fanciest flapper dress, bootlegger gear, pinstripe suit, or whatever you like.

Livonia Arts Commission seeking applications for 24th Annual Fine Arts Show
The Livonia Arts Commission is now accepting applications for the 24th Annual Fine Art Show Oct. 1-22 at the Bennett Civic Center Library. The deadline to apply is Sept. 2. Cash prizes are available for this juried fine art show! Visit LivoniaArts.org for all the details.

After a three-year hiatus the Healthy Livonia 5K is back.
The event will take place at 9 a.m. on Sunday, September 25. The race begins and ends at the TrinityElite Sports Performance Center on the campus of Schoolcraft College, 18100 St. Joe's Parkway.
The 5K is put on by Healthy Livonia, which is a collaboration between Trinity Health St. Mary Mercy Livonia, the city of Livonia, the city of Livonia's Parks and Recreation department, the Livonia Chamber of Commerce, and Livonia Public Schools. Healthy Livonia's mission is to energize a community-wide focus on healthy living in the city of Livonia and, through engaged partnerships, make Livonia the healthiest city in the nation.
This is a bit of a return to normalcy for the Livonia community, as this is among the bigger in-person events of its kind in the city every year.

Get ready. Touch-a-truck is set for August 27 |
It seems like Touch-a-truck gets better each year. This year is no exception with what some are calling the real day for a race car that will be available to see, touch and get a picture taken standing next to it. It was recently at the Detroit Grand Prix in the Legends of Motorsports group that were a part of the pre-Indy Car races.

Again this year a friend of Livonia or someone I call a CAB, Community Active Benefactor, has donated Mattel Hot Wheels for children attending the Touch-a-Truck.
Community folks have signed up to help the typewriter and bodyguard distribute the Hot Wheels: Jim Baringhaus, Brandon McCullough, Terry Marecki, Glenn Anderson, Madeline Acosta, Barb Ioan, Kellie Whitlock, Liz Jarvis, Cathy Karasinski.
With Rotary Interact, Rotary AM partnering for the 5th year to bring Livonia this outstanding event at Greenmead and with community residents dropping a dime offering to volunteer, and with AlphaUSA adding a Legend of Motorsports race car this is just another reason Livonia has it all for every age.
When you see a Rotarian or an Interact student be sure and tell them thank you and let them know how much you appreciate them putting on this event.

Six candidates are running for Livonia School Board: Incumbents Colleen Burton, Mark Johnson, Liz Jarvis. Challengers Reina Vendramini, Jeffrey Ferguson, Pam Morgan, Emily Keith.

Emily Keith is a graduate of Livonia Public Schools, a CAPA alumni, and was on Churchill’s JV soccer team. She is the mother of two children, and aunt of two children, who are all currently attending LPS in lower elementary, upper elementary, middle school, and high school.
In her words:
I was the PTA Vice President for 2 years and coached a Livonia Soccer Club team. My wife is a substitute teacher at LPS and current PTA President at an LPS school. I am in tune with the current ongoings of LPS at all levels and skilled in effective communication.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications and a Master of Science in Accounting from Eastern Michigan University. I am a certified public accountant currently employed as the Senior Director of Accounting for a publicly traded mortgage company. I have also worked as an auditor.
My professional life has garnered me the skills to read and interpret complicated contract language as well as effectively manage budgets.
I have the leadership and team skills to work well with others who may have a different point of view. I am a born researcher and will perform extensive research to ensure that my decisions are based on facts.
Prior to working for audit firms and publicly traded companies, I worked for a not-for-profit agency that serviced people with developmental disabilities. I have the know-how of working within different governmental systems and executing grant dollars.
Furthermore, I was lucky to work directly with the individuals we served, and I feel very blessed and proud to have helped them make their dreams come true!

“My name is Ayden I am 11-years-old. I lost my vision at age 3 due to an inoperable cancerous brain tumor.
I learned to read braille at a young age and have loved it ever since. The thing I love most about reading is how it takes me on an adventure and is descriptive so I can imagine in my mind what it may look like.
My most favorite book I have read lately was "Bridge To Terabithia." It was truly a magical book and I loved every second of it. It makes me feel like I'm in the book and actually one of the characters.”

Kids often live in the world of comparisons – seeing themselves as “better than” or “less than” someone else. Judgement with a feeling of “less than” leads to self-criticism and self-doubt as kids see everyone else as “better than” they are. This destroys self-esteem as kids fail to see their own uniqueness, gifts, and talents.
During this 90-minute workshop we will:
Read the story, “The Sun, The Wind and The Rain”
Engage in group discussion
Participate in a fun group activity
Make our own “The Gift of Me” board
Share what you’ve discovered about your own uniqueness
Registration is required in person at the Bennett Civic Center Children's Reference Desk or by phone at (734) 466-2493 starting Aug. 1.
This workshop will be offered on Aug. 16 and Aug. 30. Please register for only one session.
