Let's Just do it
How about Livonia taking charge, have some fun, stand on our front porch, play some songs, enjoy some music.

Terry Crouson says he is going old country. That might be one street the typewriter might avoid. Now if he were to play some Bob Dylan, save me a spot in front of the house.

Robert Johnson says he might just have to try this. Let's go one better than that Mr. Acoustic. Round up your Trinity House Open Stage Gang.

Reaction has been swift once this idea started circulating. Julie Pikarski says she "hopes my neighbors don't call the cops! "

Arnold Thomas wonders "what my condo board would think about this. Only one way to find out I guess."

The typewriter plays no instrument but I do have a boom box and the bodyguard does have a guitar and is willing to give it a try.

Let's look for 100 porch musicians on August 29th. How great would that be if 100 porches have music playing. Are you ready?

In March Bill Bresler swore that he would not shave until he received a vaccine for Covid-19.

He adds this sentiment, "But if this goes on I’ll have to audition for ZZ"

Knot Baking is a family of passionate home bakers making quality baked goods from scratch using simple ingredients free of additives and preservatives. The typewriter met them at the Wilson Barn Farmer's Market and was so impressed and so happy. Between the bagels and the cookies I did not need lunch.

Meet Bill Bresler and then vote to trim or not
Bill Bresler, third from left, was inducted into the 1835 Livonia City Hall of Fame Class of 2013 with Joan McCotter, Mary Dumas, Janet Welch, Robert Nash and AlphaUSA. People in Livonia and throughout Western Wayne County know him as a photographer for the Observer & Eccentric newspapers.

There are few who have accumulated as much history of our hometown than Bresler and he has had the luxury of capturing that history in photographs.

From his high school yearbook in 1971, working at a portrait studio when earning his degree at MSU to working for a weekly newspaper in Plymouth to moving to the O&E covering most of suburban Detroit.

After nearly 40 years at the O&E he retired from newspapering but if there is an event taking place in his hometown you can generally look up and see him with camera around his neck continually recording the history that future generations will appreciate.

So, with that in mind, should he or should he not trim his beard?

David McKillop: I'll read (Erica Robertson's) book and donate to Klisz Little library!

Vicki Schroeder: I doubt that I am one of the first five responders, but giving it a shot. I will definitely pick up the book one way or another. We are landlords of many Detroit homes. Maybe this book will help me understand our tenants more. Things have changed very much in the city since we first started buying homes in the mid 80s. My husband is already very good with relating to our tenants.
Campaigns and endorsements for
school board are revving up
The Livonia Board of Education campaign is starting to gain some steam. With four incumbents, Tammy Bonifield, Crystal Frank, Dan Centers and Karen Bradford being challenged by Madeline Acosta and Nicole Hoskins-Goudreau it shapes up to be, in normal years, an interesting campaign.

But running for school board in a Presidential election year makes it more difficult and potentially more expensive.

Madeline Acosta has started early with a website up and running, acosta4lps.com, and yard signs already in circulation.

The four incumbents, Bonifield, Frank, Centers and Bradford do not have yard signs or web site yet but have taken the first step of any campaign, lining up major endorsements from the community including:

Pick up school supplies this August 22

Baptist Church who also happens to be Assistant Principal at Clarenceville High School announces that one more Livonia business has just made a huge donation to the Back to School Curbside Distribution of Backpacks and Supplies set for August 22nd to any and all students.

They have arranged to donate:

300 sharpeners, 1,200 bic pens, 360 erasers, 4,800 pencils, 600 glue sticks, 240 backpacks, 480 24-packs of crayons, 360 rulers. And 1,000 masks.

All of this in addition to the large amounts of additional supplies and backpacks already donated.

The distribution takes place at Northville High School, Novi United Methodist Church and El Bethel Baptist Church.
