Three Saint Joseph Mercy Health System hospitals have received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's (AHA/ASA) Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus achievement award.  The Gold Plus recognition is the highest award offered by AHA/ASA for stroke care and acknowledges a hospital's commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland and St. Mary Mercy Livonia each earned the Gold Plus award by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients at a set level for a designated period. These measures include evaluation of the proper use of medications and other stroke treatments aligned with the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients. Before discharge, patients also receive education on managing their health, as well as being scheduled for a follow-up visit and other transition of care interventions.

"Each of the hospitals recognized within our health system are dedicated to continuously improving their response to stroke with a goal of delivering the highest quality care possible for patients,” said Rosalie Tocco-Bradley, M.D., Ph.D, MHSA, chief clinical officer for Trinity Health Michigan. “These hospitals have the experience and ability needed to intervene quickly to greatly reduce the likelihood of death and disability from stroke and to give our patients the best chance possible at a full recovery."
Okay Livonia. Enough Talk.
Let's Just do it
How about Livonia taking charge, have some fun, stand on our front porch, play some songs, enjoy some music.

Terry Crouson says he is going old country. That might be one street the typewriter might avoid. Now if he were to play some Bob Dylan, save me a spot in front of the house.

Robert Johnson says he might just have to try this. Let's go one better than that Mr. Acoustic. Round up your Trinity House Open Stage Gang.

Reaction has been swift once this idea started circulating. Julie Pikarski says she "hopes my neighbors don't call the cops! "

Arnold Thomas wonders "what my condo board would think about this. Only one way to find out I guess."

The typewriter plays no instrument but I do have a boom box and the bodyguard does have a guitar and is willing to give it a try.

Let's look for 100 porch musicians on August 29th. How great would that be if 100 porches have music playing. Are you ready?

It works very simply. At some point on Saturday, August 29th, go out to your front porch and start playing an instrument. Could be noon. 3:00. 7:00. Surprise your neighbors and showcase your musical abilities on the front porch.

FridayMusings endorsement:
Livonia Board of Education
This typewriter has never appreciated the move of school board elections to the same date as our vote for President one year and for Governor another year. It is impossible to run for a non-paying school board position and have to reach 30-40 thousand residents without spending $20,000 in a contested election.

We have four outstanding Trustees running for re-election this year. Dan Centers, Tammy Bonifield, Crystal Frank and Karen Bradford. And we have two challengers Madeline Acosta, and Nichole Hoskins-Goudreau.
With absentee ballots going out in 4 weeks and the mail boxes soon to be flooded with campaign literature the chances we will have to address school issues is not very great. A shame.

That is the reason the two challengers, who may very well be outstanding candidates and this typewriter certainly feels that the challenge of Madeline Acosta should be given a serious look. A look. Had she filed earlier and given more time to address her issues.

Without hesitation FridayMusings endorses Dan Centers, Tammy Bonifield, Crystal Frank and Karen Bradford for election to the Livonia Board of Education.

There is a good chemistry with our present board and I see no reason to turn any of these four out of office. When we have a good thing going let's keep it.

That being said I wish that the state would get out of the business of telling local districts what to do. This empowers our superintendent more than ever before. I come from a tradition where more power resides with the school board. Not anymore. We are fortunate to have a quality superintendent who works in concert with the current board. So yes, I come back to the need to maintain chemistry by re-electing the four members seeking re-election.

How did Musings come to the decision to endorse four incumbents?

Chemistry has already been mentioned. To develop that line of thought it was easy to follow a trail of community involvement, participation, and availability. Very few events in Livonia take place where you do not see Dan Centers, Tammy Bonfield, Crystal Frank or Karen Bradford. And not just school involvement. Not at all. Community and hometown support.

Though their community involvement they help define the personality of a youthful, engaged community leader. A definition of a community that identifies with a brand of youthful involvement. Not just age but rather the forward looking vision that takes us down a path that envisions a future for our community that has engagement with hometown issues and most importantly with hometown solutions.

It may be early as the election is not until November but Livonia is well served by these four members of the Board of Education
and I see no reason to turn them out.  Re-elect Dan Centers, Tammy Bonifield, Crystal Frank and Karen Bradford.
