Education will be at the center of the November election ballot

Mary Cavanagh on Education

State Representative Mary Cavanagh and candidate for the Michigan State Senate District 6 offers up her priority position on education. Her Republican opponent is Ken Crider:

Education

We must empower educators and students to create a better, more inclusive and equitable education system in our state.

With plummeting literacy rates, lack of resources, shrinking recruitment and retainment rates, underserved and under prioritized school districts, and politics in the classroom, I will continue to fight to appreciate our teachers & provide an equitable, quality education to all the students of MI:

  • Prioritizing Equitable per pupil Funding
  • Providing Universal Pre-K Funding
  • Transparency in for-profit Charter Schools
  • Invest in Facility & Technological Improvements
  • Fighting for Equitable Resources (laptops, textbooks, before/after school programs)
  • Prioritize Special Needs & At-Risk Students
  • Funding for Essential Tutoring & Support
  • Investing in Students who want to Pursue Teaching Degrees

Campaign kick-off fundraiser for three incumbents seeking re-election to the Livonia Board of Education

Mark Johnson, Colleen Burton and Liz Jarvis are teaming up and running as a slate for re-election. A mailing this week included three letters inviting recipients to a fundraiser at the home of Colleen and David Brandon, Thursday, August 25th.

The mailing gives the recipient the option of sending individual checks to each of the three candidates, having your name placed on joint campaign literature of the three, or taking a combination yard sign with the three candidate names.

Mark Johnson says that he has "worked very closely and collaboratively over the years with both (Burton and Jarvis) outstanding individuals and wholeheartedly support them for re-election."

Colleen Burton wants to continue working "creatively, while fiscally responsibly, to provide an outstanding educational experience both inside and outside the classroom. I have worked together with Mark Johnson and Liz Jarvis, and we have chosen to support one another in this election."

Liz Jarvis is seeking re-election "to continue working as a passionate supporter of our schools, our staff and most importantly, our kids. I have worked with Mark Johnson and Colleen Burton. We have chosen to support one another In this election."

Also running and who will be on the ballot on November 8th, are Emily Keith, Reina Vendramini, Jeffrey Ferguson, Pam Morgan.
