Election workers for Presidential Election needed by City Clerk
|
The City of Livonia Clerk’s Office is in need of election workers, precinct inspectors, for the Presidential Election on Tuesday, Nov. 3. To qualify, you must be a registered voter within Wayne County and a United States citizen. This is a great opportunity to serve your community.
Precinct inspectors must be able to:
- Assemble simple voting stations
- Attend an educational training program (mandatory every two years by the State of Michigan)
- Follow instructions provided by the precinct Chairperson
- Perform simple math calculations
- Possess inter-personal skills to work with a diverse community population
- Read and write legibly in the English language
- Work closely with others
Rate of pay and hours:
- Chairperson: $235
- Co-Chairperson: $210
- Inspector: $170
Hours are from 6 a.m. until approximately 9 p.m. or until the last voter has cast their ballot and the processing and cleanup are completed. All inspectors are required to stay and help in the closeout processing and clean up. The precinct chairperson will dismiss you.
If you are interested in becoming a precinct inspector, download the Inspector Application and return it to the Clerk’s Office. You may also pick up the application in person at the Clerk’s Office during regular business hours.

The deadline to turn in our 2020 Census is September 30th. Right now Livonia is tied for first place in percentage of forms returned. Tied with Maple Grove, Minnesota at 85.9%
Come on Livonia we are better than that. Find a neighbor, a friend, a relative and make sure they have turned in their census forms.

With the election only 70 days away and our mail boxes about to be stuffed with election brochures touting one candidate or another it just makes sense to endorse a candidate now for United States Congress.
Haley Stevens deserves our support for re-election to the United States Congress.
Literature in the mail will not hold a candle to the fact that Haley Stevens is accessible and accountable. She is the ultimate, retail elected official who has made a point to share her opinions on the issues, to appreciate the services and programs available to residents throughout her district, and to work hard at understanding what makes our hometowns so special.
This stands in stark contrast to our previous Congressman David Trott, who was rarely visible and seemed not to understand what made individual communities work.

Haley Stevens understands the issues, standing strong for environmental protections, understanding the need for availability of child care programs, and the importance of a strong historic public school education.
Stevens has made use of the need for viral communication, meeting on zoom with local leaders like Mayor Brosnan, Councilman Brandon McCullough, Senator Dayna Polehanki and Represenative Laurie Pohutsky to discuss Livonia needs, and with small business owners arranged through the Livonia Chamber of Commerce.
She has made it a point to tour Livonia manufacturing businesses.
Stevens is best at seeking out community and business needs and then going to work to find solutions to problems. Her district office in Livonia with former Plymouth City Commissioner Coleen Pobur works effectively in solving constituent needs.
We are sure that her Republican opponent is a capable and quality candidate but with only 70 days until the election he has done little to make himself known to the district, certainly not to western Wayne County or Livonia and he certainly had ample opportunity during the primary campaign. This means that our total knowledge of Eric Essacki will come from full color brochures highlighting the mantra of conservative talking points without any detail, and for sure without the definition of who he is as a person and how he perceives individual hometowns and their needs.
Stevens has worked hard to know the district, to represent us on the issues important not only to the district as a whole but to our hometown Livonia.
FridayMusings is encouraging a vote to return Halley Stevens to Washington and a second term as United States Congresswoman.

Three roommates from Detroit decided to hitchhike to California. It could be a long hike as their first stop was Seven Mile between Merriman and Farmington. Stopped overnight in Livonia. Pitched their tents. Told the typewriter that the police stopped by asked them if they they were okay. Wished them well and went on his way. How cool. The bodyguard and typewriter left them a walnut coffee cake from Paris Bakery. Gotta love Livonia as this put a smile on our face. Oh, to be 19 again.

Still time to help Kids and Family purchase student computers
Livonia Kids and Families is still looking for donations to purchase the final 100 computers for Clarenceville High School. After donating $52,000 to Clarenceville every teacher has been provided a state of the art computer for the coming virtual school year.
The 100 computers being used by the teachers, Chromebooks, have been repurposed for use by the students leaving a need for the final 100 so that every student has one for the school year.

Still time to order your copy of
Little Black Detroit Girl
FridayMusings is working with AlphaUSA to provide copies throughout the community of "The Adventures of a Little Black Detroit Girl" an uplifting, courageous story of love and healing, which speaks directly to resilient, brilliant and beautiful young adults. Musings reviewed the book last week and passed out five complimentary books with additional books being circulated at our Livonia library, high schools and middle schools in Livonia.

Steve Johnson Had a nice phone call with Madeline Acosta and came away very impressed with her ability to occupy a seat on the school board. I thank her for being so generous with her time to answer my questions.
Tamara Oliverio I second that voters (including you Bill) should give Madeline Acosta a serious look. I met her a few years back when our boys played on the Livonia Raptors (Lacrosse) together. Her and her family have also been involved in the LJAL for many years and they are VERY active in the community - in particular with young families. As you mentioned, she also has a lot of experience as an educator and with the PTA. Above all, she is kind, smart, inspirational and welcoming...even to us Livonia Eagle families (her family are Falcons...there is a long-standing rivalry between the Eagles/Falcons for those who aren’t familiar with LJAL football/cheer.)
As a LPS parent, I think it is important to have trustees who have children in LPS schools...especially if we are a community that wants to attract more young families to it. Several of our Trustees do not have children in LPS. Madeline can bring that to the table while offering the much needed “young family”, inspirational fresh perspective.
For all these reasons and more, I will be voting for Madeline Acosta in November.

One hundred years ago, my great grandmother Mary Green Porter, a committed suffragette, along with my then teenage grandmother Audrey Porter Grace, marched for women’s rights, and our right to vote.
I am proud to be a descendent of such strong women who knew that representation meant equal access for all people, both men and women.
I know they would be extremely proud that their granddaughter is running to represent all Livonians in the Michigan State House.

Last night I was thinking about the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment allowing women to vote.
As I am currently running for Wayne County Commission-District 9 seat and served on the Northville City Council for 12 years,
I cannot imagine not being able to vote. We owe so much to the women who fought for that right. It is now up to us elected women to lead with dignity and commitment.

How about Livonia taking charge, have some fun, stand on our front porch, play some songs, enjoy some music.
Terry Crouson says he is going old country. That might be one street the typewriter might avoid. Now if he were to play some Bob Dylan, save me a spot in front of the house.
Robert Johnson says he might just have to try this. Let's go one better than that Mr. Acoustic. Round up your Trinity House Open Stage Gang.
Reaction has been swift once this idea started circulating. Julie Pikarski says she "hopes my neighbors don't call the cops! "
Arnold Thomas wonders "what my condo board would think about this. Only one way to find out I guess."
The typewriter plays no instrument but I do have a boom box and the bodyguard does have a guitar and is willing to give it a try.
Let's look for 100 porch musicians on August 29th. How great would that be if 100 porches have music playing. Are you ready?
It works very simply. At some point on Saturday, August 29th, go out to your front porch and start playing an instrument. Could be noon. 3:00. 7:00. Surprise your neighbors and showcase your musical abilities on the front porch.
