Former longtime City Attorney,

Harry Tatigian passed away peacefully at

Angela Hospice August 22nd, He was 90.

Livonia has lost another giant, HarryTatigian, who served as the city attorney for Livonia for 31 years, oversaw the acquisition of hundreds of acres of land for the city, helping to create the vast parkland Livonia has today.

Tatigian liked to say that “It takes a lot of good people for a city to develop as well as this one did. I think it all starts at the top.” It was his way of passing along credit to others.

Harry was born in Detroit on July 25, 1932 to Jack and Arakce Tatigian, who were survivors of the Armenian Genocide.

Harry was a role model and inspiration to many, especially his family. He dedicated his life to serving others. After graduating from the University of Michigan with two degrees in 1955, he joined the U.S. Navy.

He then served for five years as an Assistant City Attorney for Dearborn and for 31 years as the City Attorney for Livonia. He was responsible for helping Livonia purchase most of the parklands that make Livonia so special today.

Even after Harry retired, he continued serving his community on the Livonia Civil Service Commission and the Livonia Spree Board. Altogether, he spent more than 50 years serving others and his community.

To honor his many accomplishments, in 1989 he received the Michigan Association of Municipal Attorney’s Distinguished Municipal Attorney Award.

In 2014 he was introduced by former Mayor Bob Bennett (above) and inducted into the Livonia Hall of Fame and recognized by State Senator Glenn Anderson and State Representative Laura Cox.

In 2018 he was honored when a park was named after him. Despite his many accomplishments and accolades, Harry was always humble and responded by saying, “I was only doing my job.”

When I first met Harry in 1973 he made a point to tease me about wearing sandals. He assumed that the sandals along with the graduation in 1972 from CMU and the somewhat longer hair suggested that I was a liberal. His advice was to enjoy being a liberal in my 20s but that as I got older I would understand the need to transition to being a conservative.

So many stories to share about this giant to whom Livonia will always be indebted.

Harry is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Betty, his five children, Beth Tatigian, Karen Dodge (Charles), Susan Tatro (Gerald), Jack Tatigian, and Jill Steiner (Rick), twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and his sister, Marilyn Crane.

A private visitation and memorial service will be held at Harry J. Will Funeral Home in Livonia on Saturday, August 27, 2022. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Angela Hospice, Riverside Park Church of God Adult Day Ministry, and Livonia Parks and Recreation in honor of Harry Tatigian.

Food Truck Monday continues

through the end of September

On Monday August 22nd Pure Mitten BBQ, Batter Up Waffle Co and Fríos took park in the Food Truck Tour, Lyndon and Harrison.

Kids and neighbors,co-workers and strangers, brought blankets and chairs for the EVERY MONDAY Food Truck Tour.

And yes there were some tables and chairs set up.

Mondays running through the end of September will see food trucks parked in the parking lot of Grace Church on Lyndon and Harrison (in Compton Village) from 430pm-730pm.

They are set up to have 2 different main food trucks each week plus a dessert truck! Please spread the word and feel free to invite anyone you would like, this event is open to everyone.

This year they had drinks available for a donation. All donations will go to Grace Church as a thank you for use of their parking lot. Not only do they allow the use of their parking lot, they are amazing hosts that provide great hospitality by setting up their tables and chairs and cleaning up at the end of each event.

Another partnership, Livonia Kids and Family-Clarenceville Interact-Livonia Save Our Youth Coalition-First Responders Foundation, has stepped up to provide 2,000 Coloring Books to go along with the 2,000 Mattel Hot Wheels being distributed this Saturday at the Annual Touch-a-Truck.

Stop by and say hello to the typewriter. Gotta love meeting more good Livonia folks.

Jacob is one of our Seedlings readers. His mother sent Seedlings this note…

“My son Jacob is now 13 years old. He has pan hypopituitarism/septo-optic dysplasia. He had a low sugar episode while going through an MRI, which caused him to lose his vision when he was 12 weeks old. He had 2 other episodes which caused him to stop walking, talking and eating until he was 6 years old. He didn't start eating solid food until he was 8 years old.

"He just started to become vocal again at 8. He has learned over 20 languages. But braille has been hard. He would remove labels off of books tables and toys. This year he finally understood what the braille labels were for and began to read the books.

"We started with smaller words and he did so well we are giving him books meant for 5 year olds. He's getting better with it with practice. He loves to read and sound out each word like it's a huge accomplishment for him. I can see the difference in him when he's accomplishing this. It makes him proud and gives him focus.

"His hands are looking for information and it has become part of his daily life. He needs more books to learn new things. He remembers the words of a book mentally, so reading the same book can make it too easy for him. A new book challenges his mind.”
