Livonia has collected 3,275 pairs of shoes.
To be donated around the world.

Nancy Osborne asks "What's this? Just some of the gently used shoes the Livonia Democratic Club has collected!"
The shoes will be donated to third-world countries like Haiti and Honduras and used to create micro-entrepreneurs, small business owners with the goal of creating a pathway out of poverty.
"So far we've collected 3,275 PAIRS OF SHOES! and we're not done. T shoe drive ends on Sept. 21st."
Barb Iovan alone is responsible for collecting 1,313 pairs and counting. Livonia says that you Barb for your hard work.
Also thanks to Carl Kedzierski and Mitsy Morris for coordinating a lot of the work, Louise Weller for being another major storage space, and thanks to the packers too! It's been an all-hands-on-deck effort.
If you have some nearly new looking shoes, boots, sandals, etc. adult or kid sizes cluttering up your closets, we've got drop off locations listed here:

One busy service club. The Lions.
They volunteer and Livonia benefits.

Livonia Lions Jerry Pfeifer, Chris Kuyava, Carol Kuyava, Matt Collins, Dave Zarek, Natalie McLaughlin, Carol Zarek, and Dina Dubuis gathered to do some trail work at the new Lions Park in the southwest corner of Livonia.
They began with a memorial commemorating the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack. VP Dave Zarek shared the following:
On the night of September 10th, 20 years ago:
246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights.
2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning.
343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift.
60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol.
8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives.
None of them saw past 10:00 am Sept 11, 2001.
In one single moment life may never be the same. Every night, as you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted.
These same Lions members will be serving up corn on the cob this Sunday at the Good Old Fashioned Neighborhood Corn Roast.

Livonia Historical Society set to meet
on Monday, September 27, 2 p.m.
For the first time in more than 18 months, the Livonia Historical Society will be meeting in the Alexander Blue House in Greenmead Historical Park for a special gathering. Bob Legel, President of the Livonia Historical Society, has arranged for a presentation on “ Native American History in Michigan”.
The presenter, Joe Oldenburg, retired librarian and former Michigan history professor at Oakland Community College, will talk about the first Native American tribes to live in Michigan- their clothing, food, shelter, religious beliefs, warfare, transportation, land ownership, and reservations. He will also include the removal of some tribes to the West and the coming of casinos to Native American lands.

Just as the typewriter pitched in with the Rotary AM Club to distribute 1200 Hot Wheels at the Touch-a-Truck we will have Veronica and Julie of AlphaUSA pitching in to pass out more Hot Wheels at the Good Old Fashioned Corn Roast. |
Throughout the afternoon our Livonia Civic Chorus will be providing musical interlude with tunes sure to please everyone.
Stop by the informational tables of the Livonia Symphony Orchestra and Livonia Youth Symphony of Michigan to learn about other musical opportunities.

The Lions Club working with 19 Honorary Corn Roasters and 20 corn shucking volunteers from the Clarenceville High School Basketball and Volleyball teams, Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church Youth Group, Franklin High School Honor Society, and AlphaUSA will make sure that the corn on the cob is ready at noon and be available all afternoon.
Eat some corn, have a soda or water, and stroll around the nearly 40 community groups serving Livonia and wanting to meet you to tell you about their work in our town:

The typewriter never met a sign that voted but to Ken and Sara Overwater putting up signs is a family affair. Signs, along with his nearly 2,000 doors knocked and the upcoming mailing is the combination that they hope will put Ken over the top and prove the typewriter wrong. |

Johnson set to perform at the Library |
FridayMusings favorite Livonia acoustic guitar entertainer, Robert Johson, has two local engagements that should be on the calendar for those who appreciate good quality music.
Thursday at noon at the Livonia Bennett Civic Center Library after a summer traveling and performing across the state of Michigan, Johnson will be sharing his musical skills.
