Livonia Quality of Life Years in the Making

Fifteen years. That’s how long it has been since the founding of the 1835 Livonia City Hall of Fame. And it is 186 years since the founding of Livonia Township.
 
Not once has a single Livonia resident asked "why do we need a Hall of Fame." Engaging our community the answer seems to always come back to "we have a lot of people who have volunteered long hours to give us a hometown of which we are proud. In many instances, they have sacrificed a significant part of their own lives to see that future generations have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of living in a town, the same as they did."

Each year since 1835, Livonia has added to the richness of life. And this year our inductees once again embody the full spectrum of what is needed to bring success full circle, with success
defined by each generation.
 
Today we induct a business hospitality team who made popular the phrase heard around the state, "if we are going to have a conference let's meet in Livonia.". We induct a leader of the Livonia faith community who takes her ministry into the community on a daily basis. There is a nationally recognized sports figure who despite reaching the pinnacle of sports success never forgot his hometown or the schools helping provide him with the skillset to reach the top. And a leader who recognized that for a community to be a success for all ages there needed to be the development of a parks system that would be the envy of communities across the state. And we induct an early settler of Livonia who enlisted in the civil war as a part of an all-black brigade who died before returning home to see his family on the homestead they farmed at Seven and Newburgh.
 
Each of these six inductees plays a generous role in ensuring that future generations benefit from their forward-looking vision. Not a selfish person among them, but rather individuals who want to reach out and improve the lot in the life of others.
 
It is my pleasure to see them inducted into the 1835 Livonia City Hall of Fame. Not only for who they are but also for what they represent.
