McCullough heads to Philadephia
to try out for the world ball hockey tournament in the Czech Republic.
|
This past weekend at the Sportsplex in Feasterville, Pennslyvania the USA Ball Hockey Men’s Masters Team held their tryouts for their upcoming roster as they prepare to head to the 2022 ISBHF Masters World Championships in the Czech Republic.
On the scene was none other than Livonia's Brandon McCullough who battled it out to earn a place in the group heading over to the Czech Republic next September.
He left Livonia at 7:30 Friday night after coaching his daughters hockey team in their weekly practice. He arrived at 4:30 in the morning, slept in his truck for 3 hours, headed inside for a full day of ball hockey.
Coaches and scouts were in the stands taking notes on the 60 players. 40 are to be selected. 10 not on hand were already selected so McCullough has a 1 in 2 chance of being picked to play in the Czech Republic.

Say it ain't so Rob Donovic
Livonia resident Barb Iovan asked a question of City Councilman Rob Donovic on his campaign page. She simply wanted to know if he had ever posted a picture with himself and Donald Trump. The following is his response to this question asked by Ms. Iovan:
"You Livonia Socialistic club members have been attacking me for years because I’m a conservative proud American. You all intimidate anyone who disagrees with you and cries wolf when they stand up for themselves. The funny thing about you socialists that hate America, hate police officers, and disgrace our flag, you all get upset anytime anyone stands up to you online trolls."
For the record, Ms. Iovan is a member of the Livonia Democratic Club who was responsible for collecting over 3,000 pairs of shoes for underdeveloped countries over the past two months. She is now involved with her church in collecting backpacks for distribution at Christmas.
Rob Donovic, this response by you is of shameless name-calling, name-calling without any basis of fact or reality. Every time, just as this typewriter is drawing closer to you as a person you make statements like this that leave me no choice but to look at other candidates for the office you are running for.

Meet Carrie Budzinski, Dan Centers and Ken Overwater, candidates for City Council
|
Why is Carrie Budzinski running?
I believe in Democracy and democracy only works if we get involved. To protect our freedom we must actively engage with the government, know our elected officials and run for office.
I've done the first two, now it's time for the next step.
My husband Daniel and I met while working at the Livonia Civic Center Library 16 years ago. We have two young boys we're raising in Livonia because it's where we were raised and it's nice to be close to grandparents.
I love being a mom and it's important to me that my boys understand work and participate in my efforts to make the world a better place - this means you'll often see them with me at events or meetings. And because I'm a mom, that means I know how to do a lot of things at once - well and efficiently.
I attended school at Hayes, Riley, Churchill, and the University of Michigan-Dearborn and I always graduated with honors.
I LOVE Livonia. It's my home and the place I'm raising my kids. I'm proud to live here and I want other young families to choose to be here too. For that to happen, I believe we need to do a better job highlighting the amenities the city has to offer and create more.
Additionally, the economy and work-life are changing. I want to make sure Livonia is ready for that change by working with the large companies that do business here and supporting the small businesses entrepreneurs who create the backbone of our community.
I look forward to meeting Livonians, listening to your ideas about the city, and sharing mine. Together we can do great things.

Dan Centers has Livonia Roots, Livonia Pride
Born and raised in Livonia, Dan Centers is a fourth-generation resident of our great city. As a product of the Livonia Public Schools, he began his education at Jackson Center pre-school and graduated from Churchill High School. Dan attended Madonna University in Livonia, earning a Bachelor of Arts with High Honors, as well as a Michigan teaching certificate.
Dan has dedicated his career to serving his community and the institutions that granted him success. After graduating from Madonna University, Dan worked as a classroom teacher, an executive with Boy Scouts of America, a development officer at Madonna University, and currently a Chief of Staff in the Michigan Senate.
Dan has been elected three times to the Livonia School Board. As a board member Dan focused on putting resources in the classroom for students, retaining great teachers, and improving the financial well-being of the district. In 2017, Dan was recognized with the Award of Merit from the Michigan Association of School Boards and in 2021 the Award of Distinction.
In our community, Dan volunteered with the Livonia Jaycees, a non-profit organization that promotes civic engagement and positive change through meaningful volunteer work in the local community. Who is Ken Overwater?
Ken Overwater has spent his career helping individuals from under-served communities find their best path forward. He was born and raised in Wayne County, where he attended Sacred Heart and Divine Child schools.
Growing up in Dearborn with his parents and siblings, a heart for public service was instilled in Ken from a young age. His mother has spent her life in healthcare as a nurse. His father was a reserve police officer who spent his retirement working in local government.
After finding his passion as a public defender for DuPage County in Illinois, Ken moved home to Michigan. He and his wife put down roots in Livonia to raise their two children. Ken is currently working as a public defender in Washtenaw County. He enjoys working with the Divine Child theatre program as a director of student productions, playing hockey, riding his Harley Davidson, and tinkering with his dad’s old boat.
Ken earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and his J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
As an attorney and public defender, I have spent my career advocating for people when they need it most.
On City Council, I'm focused on being a responsive and accessible advocate for Livonia. I've been knocking doors across the city to hear about your vision for the future, and am dedicated to putting resources back into helping each of our neighborhoods thrive.
People come to live and work in Livonia for its buzzing businesses, active parks, and attractive neighborhoods. I’m ready to get to work on hyper-local solutions that will uplift the qualities that make each individual neighborhood enjoyable.
I love living in Livonia because of my neighborhood. I enjoy being able to walk to my favorite restaurants and go-to hardware store. We’ve got a great park to take my daughter to play within a minute’s drive. Individualized solutions that have residents’ support are how we continue into a future we can all be proud of while investing in the things that already make Livonia a great place to live. That’s why I’m focused on building strong neighborhoods, and a strong community.

National Drive Electric Week in Livonia success
|
Despite a very rainy morning, the Greenleaf Commission hosted the National Drive Electric Week - Livonia event at Schoolcraft College. Twenty-five EV owners displayed their vehicles at the event and discussed electric vehicle ownership with participants.
Congresswoman Haley Stevens kicked off the event and visited with all EV owners. This event was supported by Plug In America, Consumer Energy, and DTE Energy. We appreciate that this group of EV owners attended our event and showed our community the future of transportation.
