20 years publishing FridayMusings without bias but not without opinion

Let the Holiday Season begin!

Santa recently visited City Hall to officially flip the switch on the city campus light display. Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by Logan, Emily, Maeve, Office Dog Kodi, and his handler Janice. The captivating light display is the result of hard work by Livonia’s DPW Team, with Head Elf Trevor overseeing quality control. In the spirit of the season, they wish everyone a 1-2-3 Merry Christmas!

Year Three is right around the corner

With all the proceeds once again benefiting Livonia Kids and Families, Brandon McCullough is pleased to announce that January 28th is the date, and the Eddie Edgar Ice Arena is the chosen location.

Key sponsors include AlphaUSA, Financial & Portfolio Advisors, UPS Store, and FridayMusings.

This is a must watch video. The Phoenix Freerunning Academy is a Livonia Best Kept Secret

Livonia's Phoenix Freerunning Academy

Phoenix Freerunning Academy, located in Livonia, is a specialized training facility for

parkour and freerunning. As the state’s only gym designed specifically for these disciplines, it has been a hub for movement enthusiasts since its founding in 2015. The academy is

led by Phoenix’s own group of professional traceurs who have collaborated and taught parkour since 2012. Their mission is to educate, promote, and unite Michigan’s parkour

and freerunning communities, ensuring that both children and adults can practice this dynamic sport in a fun and safe manner.

In May of this year, the Phoenix Freerunning Academy, Michigan’s first parkour gym located on Farmington Road, faced a devastating fire that resulted in significant losses. However, they are determined to rise from the ashes.

Since 2013, Phoenix Freerunning has thrived as a tight-knit community of passionate parkour athletes, encompassing both youth and adults, who have trained diligently at Phoenix Freerunning Academy in Livonia, Michigan. Unfortunately, on the morning of May 2, 2023, an unforeseen electrical fire engulfed their beloved gym, reducing valuable equipment and obstacles to ashes and drenching the remaining structure in toxic soot. The gym now stands as a near-complete loss.

In the face of this devastating setback, the indomitable spirit of the Phoenix Freerunning Academy team has ignited a fierce determination to rise from the ashes. They are coming together, united in a quest to rebuild the very foundation that has shaped their community into a second home and a second family for countless members.

Their fundraiser serves as a beacon of hope, aiming to provide crucial relief and support to the dedicated team at Phoenix Freerunning Academy. With your generous contributions, they can embark on a journey of transformation, resurrecting the cherished academy to its former glory.

The outpouring of love and encouragement from their remarkable Phoenix community has deeply touched all of them. They draw strength from this unwavering support as they strive to recreate a sanctuary where their extraordinary parkour athletes and devoted supporters can once again call home.

To aid in their rebuilding efforts, they are organizing a Performance Showcase fundraiser next month. Mark your calendars for Saturday, January 13, from 3-5pm at the Plymouth Arts and Recreation Complex. The showcase will feature performances by various groups across different movement disciplines. Attendees can enjoy light refreshments and engage with the performers during this uplifting event.

TICKETS to attend this event will be $20 per person. Cash and cards will be accepted.

They are looking for more groups to perform! If you are interested in performing at the showcase, please email them at team@phoenixfreerunning.com

~Seedlings Spotlight!~

Meet Skarlette, an avid reader

Skarlette (pictured here) is one of Seedlings readers! Read this quote from her mother and realize just how important Seedlings is to so many children across the nation.

“I am the parent of a 6-year-old girl who is blind. Her name is Skarlette. She is in first grade and loves to read! We have received books from Seedlings before and love them and the opportunity they give my daughter to read some of the most popular books! At the end of kindergarten, Skarlette was reading at a first grade level, so we can’t wait to see what she accomplishes this year in her reading abilities and would love to have more Seedlings books for her to read!”

What motivates FridayMusings:

We can't only define Livonia as taking small steps toward maintaining the way things were. That will give us mediocre outcomes. Our goal needs to be innovative and transformative.
