Scouts take a tour of hometown governance with Council members

Council-woman Carrie Budzinski says she had the pleasure of helping her goddaughter's Boy Scout troop earn their Democracy badge. She gave them a tour of City Hall, talked to the lobby reserve officer, stopped over to the windows for the Clerk and Treasurer's office to talk about their important role in the city, then stopped into the auditorium to talk about the different issues that come before Council and how citizens can engage with councilmembers before, after and during meetings.

Budzinski says the highlight for the Scouts was the elevator ride, stopping by the 3rd floor to show them how, like the Boy Scouts which started accepting girls in 2019 the same year Livonia elected its first female Mayor, the mayor's office went from all boys to including girl(s).

Finally, they stopped at the Council office for a chat with Brandon McCullough Livonia City Council President.

"The kids were very impressive and even stayed for most of the committee meeting.
