Rob Turfe, raised in Dearborn, with family in Livonia, and a West Point graduate, is preparing to fly in from California for the free private showing of his short film “I Love This Country”. The Phoenix Theatre and owner Cory Jacobson is also preparing to welcome the community to our own Livonia Art in the Park. Brandon McCullough, President of the Livonia City Council, will introduce Rob.

The private showing is set for 7:00 pm on January 25. If you would like to be a part of the evening with a limited private audience in the state-of-the-art Phoenix Theatre complete with Atmos Dolby Sound, send a note to rwilliamjoyner@gmail.com.

Immediately following the film, a panel discussion will be moderated by Steve Spreitzer and Rob Turfe. The film and panel discussion will conclude at 8:30. The distinguished panel includes:

Ken Barrett, Captain U.S. Navy (Ret.), former Global Chief Diversity Officer, General Motors, became General Motors’ first Global Chief Diversity Officer in 2012. He spent 28 years in the U.S. Navy, including five years of award-winning performance as the U.S. Navy's Diversity Director, where he achieved historic levels of minority and female officer additions and transformational work-life balance initiatives.

Before joining GM, he served as the Under Secretary of Defense’s Acting Director, Office of Diversity Management and Equal Opportunity.

Teri Weingarden earned a Master of Industrial Relations degree from Wayne State and dual bachelor degrees from the University of Michigan in Organizational Psychology and International Relations.

Since 2008 she has served as West Bloomfield Township Treasurer.

Her professional experience includes: Pricing Coordinator, in the Finance department, of Unisys Europe Africa Division in London, North American Knowledge Manager for Automotive and Industrial Equipment clients for Accenture.

Lorenna Black loves motivating and inspiring people as they move toward their goals. She served for 25-years in the United States Army.

As the Vice President of Leadership Development at Inforum, she is responsible for leadership development, including professional coaching and custom programs for companies.

She is passionate about her family, her fellow veterans, (most notably her husband, who is a Major in the Army Reserves) and women helping women.

Nearly 500 tickets already have been sold so be sure to get your ticket before they sell out. Limited tickets available. All proceeds will help to feed local families in need.

362 days until the 9th Annual Livonia PTSA Chili Cook-off.

This past weekend saw the tradition continue to grow.

The Annual LPTSA Chili Cook-Off has concluded with everyone having a great time and enjoying the event! Calendars are out as folks mark January in 2025 for the 9th Annual event.

The Livonia Kiwanis - Early Risers partnered with the Livonia PTSA and awarded the $500 grand prize. The Holmes Robotics Team brought robots for on-site demonstrations, Marilee Olsen and her Franklin Choir students provided live entertainment, and the Au-Some Student Designs students from Garfield made the etched glass mugs in each of the winners’ baskets.

With thanks to the Livonia PTSA for hosting the event and making this a fun hometown tradition. Thanks for posting these pictures so they can be shared with even more folks.
