Presidential Primary February 27
In November Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson released the 2024 presidential primary candidate list as required by Michigan law.. Under state law, the Secretary of State is required to issue a list of individuals “generally advocated by the national news media to be potential presidential candidates” for the Republican and Democratic parties for the presidential primary election.
The Secretary of State has identified the following candidates (listed alphabetically) as potential presidential candidates in 2024:
Democratic Party: Joe Biden, Dean Phillips, Marianne Williamson
Republican Party: Doug Burgum, Chris Christie, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Asa Hutchinson,
Vivek Ramaswamy, Donald Trump
The Michigan presidential primary will be Feb. 27. Along with the candidates listed on the ballot, voters also may choose “uncommitted” as an option. The deadline for primary election ballots are to be sent to military and overseas voters is Jan. 13, absent voter ballots must be printed by Jan. 18.
Livonia Board of Education- November 5 General
In 2024, Livonia Public Schools will hold elections for the Board of Education. There will be four positions open in this election, with four incumbents potentially running: Karen Bradford, Tammy Bonifield, Madeline Acosta, and Crystal Frank. Frank will be running to complete the term remaining with the resignation of Dan Centers.
There are at least two candidates who have expressed to Musings an interest in running for the Livonia Board of Education in 2024: Emily Keith and Drew Buatti. Other potential candidates may be considering a run, but have not yet publicly expressed their interest.
Clarenceville Board of Education, November 5 General
In 2024, Clarenceville Public Schools will hold elections for the Board of Education. There will be four positions open in this election, with four incumbents potentially running: Pamela Shourd, Jeffrey Bunker, Patrick Marietti, and Andrea Watt.
16th District Court August 6 Primary, November 5 General
Judge Kathleen McCann is not eligible to seek another term so her position on the 16th District Court, covering all of Livonia will create a vacancy with one opening in our District Court. Two candidates have expressed an interest in seeking this position, Jim Jolly and Robin Persiconi. Considering that an opening on the District Court does not come along very often one can reasonably expect others to consider running for this vacancy.
Michigan State Representative August 6 Primary, November 5 General
Livonia, having three State Representatives, will see all three incumbent legislators on the Ballot in 2024: Representative Matt Koleszar, Representative Laurie Pohutsky, and Representative Stephanie Young.
District 16 includes southeastern Livonia along with parts of Redford Township and Detroit. State Rep. Stephanie Young (D) is the incumbent and is expected to seek re-election. No candidates have yet expressed an interest in opposing Young.
District 17, encompasses northern Livonia as well as parts of Redford Township and Detroit. Rep. Laurie Pohutsky (D) is the incumbent and is expected to seek re-election. No candidates have yet expressed an interest in opposing Pohutsky.
District 22, encompasses western Livonia along with portions of Plymouth and Northville. Rep. Matthew Koleszar (D) is the incumbent and is expected to seek re-election. Two Republican candidates have filed to oppose Koleszar, Adam Stathakis and Christian Garrett Charette.
United States Senate August 6 Primary, November 5 General
With Senator Debbie Stabenow retiring Michigan will have a contested race in the primary by both political parties as several candidates have already expressed an interest in running for the nomination:
Republican: Nikki Snyder, Peter Meijer, Sandy Pensler, Mike Rogers, James Crag, Michael Hoover, Sherry O'Donnell, Alexandria Taylor and J.D. Wilson
Democrat: Elissa Slotkin, Hill Harper, Nasser Beydoun, Zack Burns, Leslie Love
United States Member of Congress August 6 Primary, November 5 General
Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D) has announced that she will be running for re-election in 2024. No candidate has yet announced plans to run against Tlaib in either the Democratic or Republican primary.
