Seedlings Online Auction raises over $40,000, meeting the goal of 4,000 new books.
|
Last week, the internet was abuzz for four days as hundreds of Seedling supporters eagerly bid on 275 items, aiming to reach the $40,000 goal. The goal was not only met but also surpassed. The final results will be disclosed in the upcoming days. Once the final tally is confirmed, Musings will be prepared to declare the triumph of this Livonia-based non-profit that offers reading opportunities across all 50 states and in over 75 countries worldwide.

In the eagerly anticipated auction for lunch with Mayor Maureen Brosnan, Councilman Brandon McCullough, and typist Bill Joyner, the typewriter claimed the top spot for the second consecutive year with a winning bid of $267. Although it contributed a modest portion of the $40,000 total raised by Seedlings, the typewriter was honored to participate in the auction, regardless of the individual amount raised. Ultimately, the visually impaired are the true beneficiaries. | |
By all accounts the Livonia Community Theatre excelled with theatre excellence as they kicked off the 2024-25 season
The Livonia Community Theatre has concluded its two-week production of Ten November. They extend heartfelt thanks to the exceptional cast and crew for their dedication and passion in each performance, and to the incredible audience for wholeheartedly embracing the story. "Thank you for being a part of this journey."
Although the typewriter was out of town, Vera Oakley Kelley's Facebook review made it clear that it was a success. She stated, "It was amazing! I loved this dramatic, with a little humor in good measure, presentation of the subject. The musical score accompanying the narrative was a perfect companion. Done so well by all involved. Congratulations!"

Thanks to a growing list of supporters and volunteers this tradition

The third annual D.O. It for Denny Toy Shop is set to take place in the first week of December! They gather donations throughout the year to meet their objectives and ensure a delightful experience for all families attending this year's Toy Shop.
Musings shares this timely story to address the question, "What happens to all the gifts and toy drives conducted during the year?" It's clear that continuous effort is made all year round to ensure the success of this event.
Last year, through their diligent efforts and the support of dedicated contributors, they amassed over 3,500 toys, providing a complete Christmas experience for more than 500 children from Livonia, Redford, and Clarenceville schools.
The previous year's Toy Shop, with the aim to match or surpass this year's expectations, provided five gifts per child. Additionally, there was an extensive stocking room where children could either fill a stocking themselves or select one that was pre-filled.
| |
In addition, they offered gift wrapping services, a family memory bundle including a game, book, ornament, cookies for Santa, and Christmas decorations, as well as a Take What You Need room stocked with food, winter gear, Christmas trees, and various household essentials.
Sami McKay, the founder of D.O. It for Denny, remarked, "It was one of the most magical weekends of my entire life, and I heard both volunteers and shoppers express the same sentiment."
Indeed, D.O. It for Denny works tirelessly throughout the year to gather gifts and toys for their annual Merry and Bright Christmas Wonderland event, which undoubtedly brings joy to many faces, both young and old.
The 2023 Toy Shop was a remarkable event, and there is great anticipation to make the 2024 event even more impactful, imbued with the holiday spirit.

The tradition started with the inaugural Brandon McCullough Annual Charity Hockey Game, where Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan had the honor of dropping the first puck alongside Red Wing legend Alex Delvecchio, Brandon, and Harper McCullough.
Since its inception, the event has continued to collaborate with Breaking Barriers for Kids and Families, with all proceeds supporting the community efforts of LKF.
The fourth annual game proudly lists AlphaUSA, F&PA, FridayMusings, and UPS Store as sponsors. Continuing the tradition, there will be a canned food drive, with attendees encouraged to donate to the food pantries supported by Kids & Families.

The typewriter is not available for phone calls or emails Saturday and Sunday. Mental health and rehabilitation time. Out and about enjoying life.
What motivates FridayMusings:
We can't only define Livonia as taking small steps toward maintaining the way things were. That will give us mediocre outcomes. Our goal needs to be innovative and transformative.
