Pizza with the Councilman at the Senior Center took a break to wish all of Livonia a Happy Thanksgiving

The monthly "Pizza with Councilman Brandon McCullough" concluded the first year with a full house taking a moment to extend Thanksgiving greetings to the entire Livonia community. Please note that the event will not take place in December, but will recommence in January. As usual, pizza is on the Councilman, and the questions are on the seniors.

Meanwhile, we extend our heartfelt wishes for a very Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas to everyone in Livonia.

Thoughts as we head into the holidays

Feeling like a child again, I gazed at the year's first snowfall last Thursday. I could have sat there all day, taking in the beauty. How exciting.

It's gratifying to see the city clean up the leaves on residential streets and then wash them down. Another valuable service for our tax dollars. Thank you, Livonia. How exciting.

We explored Chattanooga and discovered a city where I want to uncover more hidden treasures, like the Art District, the River, and Choo Choo City. We always passed through on I-75 heading to Atlanta but never stopped until now. How exciting.

Michigan has proposed an NIL package to Bryce Underwood that could exceed $5 million over the next three to four years. Yet, some reports indicate that Michigan's offer might be close to $10 million. I might remove college football from my autumn schedule. Amateur sports seem to have vanished; now, it's all about the money. What a letdown.

I'm still on the hunt for a snow removal service. Calls are made, and messages left, but no callbacks. And when they do respond, they're asking for $600-800 upfront for the season. While they have the right to set their prices, surely there must be a pay-per-service option available. Any suggestions? Quite frustrating.

Two weeks ago, I requested a mail hold while out of town. Was the mail held as requested? No. It was delivered daily. No hold was placed. I called my next-door neighbor, who kindly checked my mailbox and took the mail home. Disappointing service from our postal system, but how exciting to have such helpful neighbors.

The new trash/recycling containers will be an early Christmas present. They are another forward step for Livonia's future, a benefit for Livonia. How exciting!

This year, I will have seen two parades: Northville or Livonia West which I call my adopted downtown until Five and Farmington is in the books, last week, and Livonia's Merry and Bright on the 8th. I've decided to watch the Thanksgiving parades on TV and then watch the Lions defeat the Bears. The holiday spirit of Livonia. How exciting.

One more mail thought: There was a time when I could predict my mail's arrival time, consistently at 1:00 PM, delivered by the same mail carrier for years. Delivery doesn't happen until after 7:30 PM, sometimes as late as 8:00 PM. The bodyguard used to bake cookies for her mailman, and my carrier occasionally babysat Paul. These days, there's a different carrier each day, or so it seems. Postal mail delivery played a crucial role in communication among the colonies, aiding in the unification of the newly independent United States under Benjamin Franklin's leadership. It's disheartening to witness such a decline in a once-respected agency. How disappointing.

Thinking about making it to JCPenney at 5:00 AM on Friday for a free snow globe. It used to be I picked up mom and at times niece Kimberly at 5:30 AM for the Santa Bears at Hudson's. Then home for French toast, bacon, and cinnamon rolls. Exciting just thinking about it. Will I? 50-50 at best.

I attended a wedding in Trenton, Georgia, nestled on a mountainside blanketed with trees, with the setting sun's light streaming through the branches. It was so refreshing to be outdoors in such a setting. During her opening remarks, the officiant acknowledged the history of the Cherokee Indians on this land, which the venue now stands on and which they once called home. Quite thrilling.

I am grateful for the return of our legislative leaders who are proactive, visible, and accessible in serving Livonia. Laurie Pohutsky, Stephanie Young, Matt Koleszar, Rashida Tlaib, Glenn Anderson, and Terry Marecki are all there to assist. Whether you have questions, need support, or seek answers, they are available individually and collectively. We're fortunate to have such a dedicated team working for Livonia. Truly exhilarating.

Livonia Lions meet up with Forever Families and learn of their work since 1997

Rebecca Prewada and Nicole Larabell told of their Livonia 501c3 Non-profit which was established in 1997 as an Adoption Agency but has expanded into a child placement agency, licensing foster homes and providing support to adoptive and foster families, providing counseling and education to ensure safe, loving, and permanent homes for children.

Forever Families works with the State of Michigan, the Department of Health and Human Services, adoptive parents, foster families, and pregnant mothers who plan to give their children up for adoption. They empower families with information to help ensure a positive & successful adoption or foster care experience.

What motivates FridayMusings:

We can't only define Livonia as taking small steps toward maintaining the way things were. That will give us mediocre outcomes. Our goal needs to be innovative and transformative.
