FridayMusings providing Livonia happenings since 2003

Friday, November 8, 2024

Veterans Day is an annual celebration to honor those who have served in the United States Military. Originally observed as Armistice Day beginning in 1919, it's a time to reflect on the service of our family members, friends, neighbors, and even those we've never met who have served our nation. From this weekend through Veterans Day on November 11, take a moment to close your eyes and contemplate their sacrifices.

I will return to these pages on Wednesday, as I plan to visit the 775-acre Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, on Monday. The land was generously donated by the late World War II veteran, Scott Hudgens.

The Georgia National Cemetery is the second of its kind in Georgia and the 123rd in the United States. The site, historically used for logging, is situated near the Etowah burial mounds, which were constructed by Native Americans between AD 1000-1550, marking one of the largest Native American burial mounds in North America.

Jim Jolly wishes Robin Persiconi and her family all the best and promises to serve Livonia in a way that fosters trust in our courts.

I would like to congratulate Robin Persiconi on a hard-fought election and a great campaign. It takes courage to run for public office, and Robin met the challenge well, pushing me to work hard. I wish her and her family the best in all future endeavors.

Thank you to everyone who voted on Tuesday. It is an honor to participate in the democratic process. I am incredibly grateful to my family and the many friends throughout our city who believed in me enough to take signs, distribute literature, donate funds, and most importantly, vote.

It is humbling to know that, because of their support, I will have the privilege of serving as the next judge of the 16th District Court—a court that has, for the past 60 years, been led by dedicated judges and served by outstanding clerks, court officers, probation officers, and more.

Starting as an intern, then as a court officer and law clerk, and finally as a magistrate, I have always hoped to return to the court as judge. My goal has never been just to win an election, but to be a judge with good judgment, a solid understanding of the law, and empathy for others. I am committed to serving our community in a way that fosters trust in our courts and upholds the rule of law.

Thank you for this opportunity. I promise to work every day toward this goal.

Sharing warmth with local families

and yes, you can volunteer

Breaking Barriers for Kids & Families is teaming up with Clarenceville High School on November 20th, beginning at 4:30 PM, to create 200 no-sew blankets and fleece scarves for families in need.

This initiative is another way our community embodies the Thanksgiving spirit, with volunteers dedicating their time to bring warmth to local families.

Let's share our appreciation showcased on Facebook by Janis Clark and

reshared by the Livonia Public Schools to the Churchill and Franklin Stallions.

Janis Clark shared the photo and caption above. Quickly, Livonia Public Schools circulated the post, spreading the story of kindness. Now, Musings is passing along the type of story that frequently occurs in our hometown.

LPS says our schools are "So proud of our Stallions (CHS and FHS) hockey team for conducting a 'rake and run' on their day off from school today! Way to go!"

Clarenceville High School is a part of the largest drug prevention campaign in America with support from Mayor Brosnan

New campaign .... Students Leading Students and the entirety of Clarenceville High School is celebrating Red Ribbon Week, the largest drug prevention campaign in the country.

Mayor Maureen Brosnan says that "They asked me to join them in their efforts to show support for healthy, productive, drug- free lifestyles by wearing this ribbon.

"Did you know overdoses are the leading cause of death in people in the U.S. between the ages of 18 to 45, outnumbering death by firearms, motor vehicle crashes, suicide and homicide?

"I think we can all agree it's important we work together to solve this problem."

Glenn Anderson says Thank You.

I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to vote in yesterday’s General Election and especially those who voted to give me the opportunity to continue serving on the Wayne County Commission. I will strive to continue being the voice for our citizens in the 12th Commission and assist them with county issues.

Matt Koleszar says Thank You

Thank you to the residents of Plymouth, Northville, and Livonia for entrusting me with your vote and to my campaign team and the many volunteers who helped make this victory possible.

While this morning was not what many of us expected across many races, I am grateful to continue my service to such an amazing community!

Crystal Frank says Thank You

The typewriter is not available for phone calls or emails Saturday and Sunday. Mental health and rehabilitation time. Out and about enjoying life.

What motivates FridayMusings:

We can't only define Livonia as taking small steps toward maintaining the way things were. That will give us mediocre outcomes. Our goal needs to be innovative and transformative.
