Rotary Clubs Annual Community Spaghetti Dinner Wednesday October 23

As Councilwoman Carrie Budzinski shares on her Facebook page, shared after the 2023 Spaghetti Dinner, "It's not hard to find a good time in Livonia. Our two Livonia Rotary Clubs are hosting their annual Community Spaghetti Dinner to support polio eradication

"It is one of my favorite events. It's family-friendly. The boys love it, is affordable, and it is for a great cause. It is fun as I catch up with friends and meet new people.

"If you're looking for a strong, supportive community, you don't have to look far. There's a lot of great work being done in Livonia."

Laurie Pohutsky, President of Noon Rotary, and Dave Stechholz, President of AM Rotary along with your friends and neighbors pictured with this article who have enjoyed this community gathering for the past six years, hope you can join them this Wednesday. The typewriter will be there so make a point to say hello.

Livonia Graduates Continue to Give back to their school community

The original letters from the front of SHS have been restored. Drew Buatti, a Stevenson alumnus and President of the Class of 2023, 22, 21, expressed his pleasure in contributing to the project. "The letters were removed to make way for the new auditorium during past renovations and had been stored at SHS. We initiated this project in the summer of 2023 and accomplished a great deal," he said.

Students from the shop classes participated in restoring the sign during the last school year. It has now been mounted and is set to grace Stevenson High School for many years.

"I am very proud to have played a part in preserving a piece of Stevenson's history," Buatti added. Appropriately Buatti has recently joined the Livonia Historical Society.

A Celebration of Life will be held for former Livonia Mayor Dennis Wright this Sunday, October 27, from 1 to 4 at Laurel Manor.

Prioritizing Maternal Health

As the founder of the Congressional Mamas’ Caucus, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib was honored to attend Birth Detroit’s 4th Anniversary and Ribbon Cutting.

"Birth Detroit is a critical resource for families in our community, providing holistic, culturally focused care for expecting mothers. It’s so fulfilling to see the progress we’ve made in supporting maternal health, and I’m proud to stand with organizations like Birth Detroit as we continue to fight for better care and outcomes for mothers of color and their babies.

Bussey Early Childhood Center

Congresswoman Tlaib says it was a joy to visit the Bussey Early Childhood Center in Southfield and meet with Dr. Connie Thompson, the amazing director, and the dedicated staff.

"I had the opportunity to tour the classrooms where our incredible Foster Grandparent volunteers serve, making a real difference in the lives of these young students. It’s heartwarming to see the positive impact this program has on both the children and the seniors who participate, and I’m grateful for the chance to support such a wonderful initiative."

Culture in Livonia can be fun. And this concert certainly is at the top of the Livonia fun list.

The Livonia Symphony Orchestra invites you to don your beloved Halloween attire and come to their eerie concert, showcasing 'Orpheus of the Underworld' among other thematic pieces.

The concert commences at 4 p.m. on the 26th of October in the historic Louis Schmidt Auditorium, named after former State Representative Louis Schmidt, at Clarenceville High School, the oldest school district in Michigan.

Schoolcraft College election remains in the spotlight

Livonia residents are encouraged to pay close attention to the contentious local election, which will shape the future of Schoolcraft College, a treasured local institution.

The Schoolcraft College Trustee election, featuring incumbent Candy Little and resigned Trustee Joan Gebhardt, has ignited substantial debate on social media. The focal point of discussion is an investigation into Gebhardt's conduct, which was reported exclusively by FridayMusings. The two reports, with links provided, allow readers to view the findings firsthand and make their judgments regarding the investigators' conclusion that Gebhardt was involved in bullying, intimidation, and harassment of staff and leadership before her resignation in early 2023, which halted further investigation.

And now we find that recent endorsements for Schoolcraft College Trustee are shifting from Joan Gebhardt to Candy Little, including that of the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters, who, despite being listed as Gebhardt supporters, have now endorsed Little.

Contrary to listings, the significant endorsement from the Metro AFL-CIO has been pulled as they no longer support Gebhardt.

Moreover, County Commissioner Terry Marecki has withdrawn her support from Gebhardt, and despite being listed as Gebhardt endorsers, County Executive Warren Evans and County Clerk Cathy Garrett assert they have never endorsed Gebhardt.

Locally, Canton Township Supervisor Anne Marie Graham-Hudak reportedly never endorsed Gebhardt despite being listed as a supporter.

Four members of the Livonia City Council, Brandon McCullough, Martha Ptashnik, Scott Morgan and Rob Donovic have endorsed Little.

All seven members of the Livonia Board of Education support Little- Karen Bradford, Mark Johnson, Madeline Acosta, Tammy Bonifield, Liz Jarvis, Colleen Burton and Crystal Frank.

Every member of the Schoolcraft College Board of Trustees are endorsing Little- Carol Strom, Brian Broderick, Brett Gierak, Terry Gilligan, Dillon Breen, Angela Jaafar.

The Faculty Forum and Michigan Education Association have added their endorsement for Candy Little.

The only vote that counts is the one you make on election day. But consider whether the “facts" are truthfully presented, especially when it comes to claimed endorsements.

What motivates FridayMusings:

We can't only define Livonia as taking small steps toward maintaining the way things were. That will give us mediocre outcomes. Our goal needs to be innovative and transformative.
