Helping define Livonia's

Quality of Life

October 3, 8:30 - 12:00, Madonna University

Felician Sisters Mission and Heritage Week 150th Anniversary

Madonna University has planned a special format for the

annual Franciscan Symposium during the Mission and Heritage Week this year as this is the Felician Sisters' 150th Anniversary

of the order coming to America.

The Felician Sisters are celebrating the 150th anniversary of their

presence in North America! This milestone marks 150 years since

Mother Mary Angela Truszkowska sent five Felician Sisters to Polonia, Wisconsin,

in 1874 to help educate the children of Polish immigrants.

The Felician Sisters have taken corporate stances on several vital issues facing humanity, including as explained on their Corporate website: opposition to the death penalty, elimination of nuclear weapons, appreciation for reverencing all through diversity, water rights, and the elimination of all structural, economic, and social systems that support human trafficking. The Felician Sisters also add their collective voice in advocacy efforts urging corporations and governments to adopt policies that protect the environment and provide justice to people most affected by climate change.

Join your friends, and neighbors at the Madonna University Welcome Center

It is time for voters to help Schoolcraft College move beyond the Joan Gebhardt divisiveness

Joan Gebhardt quit her Trustee position in 2023, following a checkered tenure marked by division she caused among college Trustees, staff, and administration, which was later confirmed by an investigation. Her role as Schoolcraft College Trustee was replete with staff anxiety caused by her bullying, which resulted in her being directed to inform campus security one hour before she arrives on campus, and indicating where she would be while on campus.

With the Executive Board of the Schoolcraft College Faculty Forum now endorsing her opponent, Candy Little, and the Board of Trustees also unanimously supporting Little, there is scant support left for Gebhardt on campus to return to the position she voluntarily vacated last year.

Gebhardt’s latest controversy is that she claims endorsements for her election that have either never been made or withdrawn. County Commissioner Terry Marecki recently called Gephardt and withdrew her endorsement. Even more outrageous, the Office of Wayne County Executive Warren Evans indicates that he has not endorsed Gebhardt, although she lists him as a supporter.

As reported earlier in Friday Musings, the college’s investigation made clear that Gebhardt is on a "revenge tour" based on personal narcissism, citing evidence that she has threatened to make the lives of certain college leaders a “living hell” if she is re-elected. The voters of the Schoolcraft College District do not want to enable that kind of unacceptable conduct

This election is about the future of Schoolcraft College, and fortunately, we have the right candidate in Candy Little. It is time to move on and leave the transgressions of the past by one vindictive Trustee.

Musings, wanting to be transparent as has been our policy since we started covering this campaign, is providing the full initial report of the investigation here for your review, and the full final report:

What motivates FridayMusings:

We can't only define Livonia as taking small steps toward maintaining the way things were. That will give us mediocre outcomes. Our goal needs to be innovative and transformative.
