Today is the fifteenth Yahrtzeit of my father in law- Binyamin Zev Ben Shlomo.
My father in law was from the old school.
Meaning, he never took a penny he didn’t work for. He was honest and people knew that about him.
He came to this country after the war.
He was sent to England from Vienna before the war started. His parents ended up in Bergen Belsen.
He was a person who had Simchos HaChaim.
He always had a corny joke to share and his smile was etched on his face.
He loved his wife, his daughters and his grandchildren. He even loved his son in laws- even me.
He had standards such as integrity and honesty.
If he didn’t earn the money, he didn’t want it.
He worked hard and he worked honestly.
To this day people refer lovingly to Wili Herzka.
If someone was sitting Shiva, before Missaskim existed, he would install an extra AC for the family sitting Shiva.
That’s how he was; honest, hard working a true earlicher (honest) Yid.
I miss his smile and I miss his love.
Most of all, I miss him.
