MN'S ETHANOL INDUSTRY CONTRIBUTED $2.7 BILLION TO ECONOMY IN 2022

Minnesota’s ethanol industry contributed $2.7 billion to the state’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2022, according to a new study by the University of Minnesota Extension. 

In 2022, the industry produced 1.34 billion gallons of ethanol, up from 1.27 billion gallons in 2021. This resulted in $8 billion in economic activity through sales and supported 25,820 jobs in Minnesota, the study said. Read More

MN BIO-FUELS TESTIFIES AT EPA HEARING


Our executive director, Brian Werner, testified on March 21 at the EPA's virtual hearing on the latter's proposal to allow year-long E15 sales in several midwestern states in 2024. In his testimony, Werner urged the EPA to use its existing authority to prevent the disruption of E15 sales this year by extending the RVP allowance from June 1 to Sept 15. Werner said any interruption in E15 sales this year would have an "outsized impact" in Minnesota. Read More

MN BIO-FUELS AT THE CAPITOL

Our executive director, Brian Werner, testified at the sub-committees for a Clean Transportation Standard Act and a Biofuel Monitoring Act in St Paul earlier this month. For the Clean Transportation Standard Act, Werner said the bill had the potential to lower GHG emissions and benefit communities in greater Minnesota if crafted properly (read more). As for the Biofuel Monitoring Act, he said none of the ethanol plants in Minnesota accept pesticide-treated seed corn and there are concerns of subjecting ethanol plants to monitoring requirements that have not been through a complete federal rulemaking process (read more).
