J.P. Morgan’s Q1 2026 Biopharma Report Points to a Selective but Active Market

J.P. Morgan’s new Q1 2026 Biopharma Licensing and Venture Report shows a market that remains active, but more disciplined than in prior cycles. Venture funding slowed from last year’s pace, while licensing, M&A, and a modest rebound in IPO activity helped carry momentum into 2026. Across the market, investors and strategic buyers continue to favor later-stage assets, differentiated science, and programs with clearer clinical and commercial paths.

The report also points to strong licensing demand, milestone-heavy deal structures, continued interest in oncology and obesity-related programs, and a growing role for China-origin assets in major partnerships. For companies, investors, and ecosystem leaders, the message is clear: capital is still moving, but it is flowing toward programs that look more mature, more validated, and closer to value-inflection points.
