WBJ: Germantown biopharma Precigen turns first quarterly profit after key drug scores FDA approval

Germantown’s Precigen Inc. (NASDAQ: PGEN) has turned its first-ever quarterly profit, about one year after regulators gave the company the green light to bring its first product to market.

In August 2025, the FDA approved Precigen’s immunotherapy treatment Papzimeos as the first treatment of its kind for adults with recurrent respiratory papillomatosis, or RRP. The rare disease causes benign tumors in the respiratory tract and can create life-threatening complications.

Sales of Papzimeos propelled the biopharmaceutical firm formerly known as Intrexon Corp. to its first quarterly profit since it rebranded as Precigen in 2020 and shifted its focus to drug development.

The company reported net income of $20.1 million for the second quarter as net revenue of Papzimeos more than doubled from the prior quarter, to $53.1 million. In last year's second quarter, before Papzimeos hit the market, Precigen lost $26.6 million.
