Life Science in the News
It is no surprise to us that we have remarkable leaders in the BC life sciences community, but it is exciting to see the external recognition of one of our own this week: congratulations to Dr. Allen Eaves for being named number two in The Healthcare Technology Report’s Top 25 Biotech CEOs of 2021. The list reviews the accomplishments of hundreds of nominees, awarding recognition to the top 25 who made the most remarkable strides in advancing research, developing breakthrough drugs and guiding extraordinary growth. We are very fortunate to have Dr. Eaves as a lifetime champion of the sector right here in British Columbia.
Next week we will be watching and cheering on Eupraxia as they launch their IPO on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Victoria’s Eupraxia Pharmaceuticals Inc., founded by CEO Dr. James Helliwell, is slated to become the first Canadian biotech startup to go public solely on the TSX in nearly two decades.
COVID-19 Update
Earlier this week, the Ministry of Health provided a detailed update on BC’s immunization plan. We have also now moved into Phase 2, allowing older adults born 1941 or earlier as well as Indigenous people born 1956 or earlier to access vaccines. B.C. is making online and phone appointments available and health authorities will be contacting those in supportive housing or using home care. Phase 3 will be from April – June, and will see immunization clinics including mobile clinics throughout B.C. vaccinating older adults from 60 -79 in spread out in 5-year increments as well as those anyone over 16 who is clinically extremely vulnerable.
