Celebrating BC life sciences further afield recently; LSBC members Variational AI, Primary Peptides, Mesentech and Aspect Biosystems were part of the Canada Pavilion at BIOPLUS INTERPHEX KOREA 2021 at the end of August.

Exciting news for AbCellera too; not only is CEO, Carl Hansen a finalist in the 2021 Bloom Burton Awards but the Eli Lilly antibody combo that includes AbCellera’s bamlanivimab has been cleared for nationwide use by the FDA, citing effectiveness against the COVID-19 delta variant.

Meanwhile, and of increasing importance, BIOTECanada invites us to MEET BIONATION. This campaign demonstrates why a strong life science ecosystem is vital for Canada’s future health and wellbeing.

Support for a strong life sciences sector is something that I touch on frequently. I had the opportunity to reinforce this when interviewed for Business in Vancouver’s Tyler Orton’s recent article on LSBC member, Symvivo’s novel oral COVID-19 vaccine.

“It always starts with world-class science, which Symvivo has right now. And then in order for it to grow, and accelerate and ultimately become commercially viable, [that’s] enabled by capital and talent, infrastructure…”

I’ve also spoken recently at the Doing Business in Canada Series 2021 | British Columbia Showcase, which was organized by the Canadian High Commission in India in association with India Accelerator. My talk was to provide an overview and promote the BC Life Sciences sector. In addition to myself, Rooma Bussi, Managing Director, Trade & Invest British Columbia – India and Assistant Deputy Minister Selena Basi, Ministry of Jobs, Economic Recovery & Innovation, Govt. of British Columbia also spoke.

We’ll be sharing the BIONATION campaign on our socials into the fall; if you see our posts, why not share them to friends and family? Maybe we can spread the message beyond the life sciences community and out into the wider public!
