CEO MESSAGE
Our transition into fall and into a new year of programming continues here at Life Sciences BC. Our AGM last week saw arrivals and departures. Max Blouw, Kevin Chaplin, Bob Dawson, and I were elected to the Board of Directors. Nancy Harrison and Dr. Gavin Stuart, who have both made significant contributions to the organization and its overall management in the last several years, departed. LSBC thanks Nancy and Gavin for their years of guidance and I look forward to their continuing leadership in the BC life sciences sector.

At the subsequent Board of Directors meeting, it was announced that Scott Phillips will continue as Chair, Board of Directors with Ali Ardakani remaining as Vice Chair. Rajveer Hundal will stay on as Treasurer. You can see full details of our 2021/2022 Board here.
For your reading list; there have a been a number of publications worth bookmarking recently. Rob Henderson, president and CEO of BioTalent Canada writes an op ed for The Hill Times. His article, Developing Canada’s vaccine infrastructure for future pandemics will depend on addressing bio-economy labour shortages is available; sadly, further posts on addressing the biotalent shortage, the Canadian biotech industry and life sciences sectors, manufacturing infrastructure and Canada’s biomanufacturing strategy are behind a paywall (here, if you have a subscription).

Luckily, Bloom Burton’s Canada in Science September is not behind a paywall. And neither is our annual Life Sciences magazine. Published in partnership with Business in Vancouver, the issue will be on the stands from today, with the digital version added to our Publications page shortly afterWithout giving spoilers, this year’s magazine takes a look at breakthrough innovation, real estate, and building a bigger sector propelled by the COVID-19 pandemic, with a side order of psychedelics. Copies will be available to collect from our downtown office if you’d like to drop by, suitably masked of course!
I’d like to send congratulations to LSBC members, Roche on turning 125 years old this year and Zymeworks, a little younger at 18 years old, also marking a significant milestone. Happy anniversary to both!

Congratulations are also due to UBC alumnus, Dr Sandra Dunn who is recognized as one of Forbes 50 powerful women, changing lives for the better.
