Canada recruits 64 of the World’s Top Researchers with the Eddie Goldenberg Research Chairs Program
Speaking at UBC last week Thursday, Industry Minister Mélanie Joly announced the government is giving $541 million in research funding to an initial tranche of research leaders recruited into Canadian institutions. Nine Research Chairs were welcomed to UBC, two to UVic, and one to SFU.
"While certain countries are cutting research and turning their back on academic freedom, we're doubling down on science and we're doubling down on research," Joly said.
The initiative which was launched last year in December is an opportunity for Canada to attract some of the world’s top research talent. Each professor is set to receive either $500,000 or $1 million of funding per year toward their research over eight years. Read more (cbc news)
