Bangor Teen Wins High Honors in International Science Competition

Ijeoma Obi, a senior at Bangor High School, was recognized with High Honors for her research at the International BioGENEius Challenge, a prestigious competition for high school students that recognizes outstanding research and innovation in biotechnology.

Ijeoma utilized a novel molecular design for the pharmacological modification of ion channel function, research that could help with the delivery of life saving medications. She won the state competition at the BioME Student Showcase in April and qualified for the international BioGENEius Challenge at the BIO International Convention in June.

ME Bioscience Day 2020

BioME's 5th annual ME Bioscience Day will take place on November 17, 2020. This is a statewide event that aims to get middle school students excited about science and inform them of the opportunities that they might have working in a science-related field in their future. In 2019, we were able to reach 3,300 students through this event.

Although we don't know what Maine's middle schools will look like this fall, we are planning ahead. If you are interested in this effort and would like to devote a couple hours and give back to the community, now is the time to register.
P.S. You don't need to be a science expert to volunteer!
