Strategies for Reshaping the Future of Antiviral Development

Turn antiviral science into meaningful clinical evidence with QPS. Learn how the mechanism of action can guide assay and biomarker strategy, PK/PD planning, resistance monitoring, clinical endpoints, and regulatory strategy. This QPS white paper connects viral biology to practical development decisions, helping biotech teams build stronger, more evidence-driven antiviral programs.

Weekly BioPharmGuy Directory Edits

This week we added 32 companies and removed 93. Most of those removed were due to website being down since May or earlier. If a company leaves a website broken that long, they're probably not long for the world or at least not important.

Best New Name:

Miramoon Pharma

Worst New Name:

RecoRNA

They Will Be Missed:

Wisecube

Diagonal Bio

Indaptus Therapeutics

Blindslicing

Visual impairment is a real problem. So, of course, devices to improve this situation are welcome.

But should these devices first be used to let blind people cut things with large knives?

We would probably choose a different use case for launch. We love cooking, but we love our fingers more. And as expensive as they might be, you can buy pre-cut peppers, man.

Another Magic Box

There is real aspiration fatigue in biotech. One company says they will cure a cancer, then another says 10 cancers, then some AI company says they will cure everything.

Given this precedent, hearing about a box that can make ANY DRUG just seems par for the course these days.

If Elizabeth Holmes with her magic box was a moonshot, this thing is a Neptuneshot.

Puff In Them Guts

O11 Therapeutics is treating lung problems by using "the human intestines as a respiratory organ”, which is certainly a creative way of framing things.

They state the human intestine is a highly effective CO2 exchange membrane.

Perhaps.

While our expertise on the subject is limited, we can definitely say when our gut 'respirates', it generally has a deleterious effect on any and all nearby lungs.

Website Commentary - Mission Creep

Did a little voiceover clip last week making fun of a company's AI-generated landing video and since some people really liked it, we thought why not do another.

Ferrer is a pharmaceutical company, but you could be forgiven for not realizing that went you navigate to their website since their entire homepage is dedicated to social justice.

Never seen such a thing so thought we would give a guided tour of their webpage on the new BioPharmGuy YouTube channel.

Strange Timing

A week after we point out how many competitors Lilly is ‘investing’ in, they decide to pull all information about their early-stage programs from their website.

Random timing or massive coverup?

Employee Approval

Companies always like to demonstrate how great they are as workplaces. They share information about benefits, team building activities, etc.

And occasionally they ask their current employees to share their opinions.

Oh sure, you can trust the employee what's being shared on the company's website. Definitely not gonna be a whitewashed version of reality!

If you read through a bunch of testimonials from employees, and not a one says they work there because they get paid, it's all bulls**t.

80s Reboot

Anyone looking to reboot The Breakfast Club could do worse than the Calidar management team.

You’ve got a nonconformist, a sweetheart, a fashion guru, a nerd...and also the three people to the right of the CEO.

The future of biologics starts with the right partner. Eurofins CDMO Alphora's integrated CDMO expertise support the development and manufacture of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), helping innovators navigate complexity, accelerate timelines, and bring next-generation therapies closer to patients.

Health & Science

RFKuckoo

Americans are losing weight. On that we can all agree. But there appears to be at least one person who thinks this is due to a reason other than GLP1s.

And that person happens to be our Secretary of Health & Human Services.

Yes, Robert Kennedy is going around claiming the Trump administration & MAHA deserve credit for people losing weight.

The level of delusion is astounding.

Mercurial MIT Incident

Dimethyl mercury is a chemical so potently toxic if you touch it, you will die.

So, when a grad student said he synthesized it and reported his exposure last week, it was a 5-alarm incident at the MIT chem building.

After much cleaning and further investigating, it seems the chemical was not, in fact, synthesized.

Word is not yet out on what this student was thinking or what he was even doing.

Plastic Protein Production

Reporting on new scientific discoveries and hinting at future applications is pretty standard. For example, if a bacteria can digest crude oil, it would make sense to suggest it could clean up oil spills.

But wouldn’t it be a bit weird if the article suggested it could be used to clean up heavy bitumen oil spills with a 70/30 heavy/light ratio?

So, why does this article suggest a microbe that can convert plastic to proteins should specifically be dedicated to making cookies?

If the process yielded a solid edible mass that was cookie-like, that would be one thing, but no, it requires the addition of “fiber, starch and sweeteners”.

Oh, so you only have to add all the ingredients of a cookie? May as well have suggested a pizza recipe.
