Every Fourth of July, thousands of people come to enjoy Birch Bay's incredible shoreline. After the celebrations end, our community comes together to help restore the beach, but our hope is that each year, there's less and less to clean up.

If you're available, join us for our annual July 5 Beach Cleanup.

Trash bags, gloves, grabbers, and refreshments will be available to borrow at the Whatcom Conservation Booth across from the Birch Bay Beach Park.

While we appreciate everyone who volunteers, we'd love to see a future where these cleanups become easier because everyone does their part.

Here are a few simple ways to help:

• Pack out everything you pack in: including all fireworks debris, food containers, and other trash.

• Don't leave items behind assuming volunteers can pick them up. Every piece of litter left behind impacts wildlife, marine life, pets, and the people who enjoy our beaches.

• Please stay out of the fenced areas along the berm. These aren't places to hang out or discard trash. The fencing protects native plants that help prevent erosion, provide habitat for wildlife, and strengthen our shoreline.

Together we can keep Birch Bay beautiful... not just on cleanup day, but every day.

Birch Bay is a community full of Dual Citizens and Canadians who love this place and call it home or their home away from home.

Just up the road in Blaine is the Peace Arch Park, a national monument of the peace between our two countries, with one foot anchored in the USA, with the words inscribed “Children of a Common Mother,” and one foot anchored in Canada, with the words inscribed “Brethren Dwelling Together in Unity.” “May These Gates Never Close” is inscribed inside the arch. The Peace Arch was dedicated in 1921, and these words are just as true today as they were over one hundred years ago.

With all of the celebrations this week it's the perfect time to take a stroll at this beautiful park and historic monument of peace between our two countries.

📢 Fireworks Ordinance Update 📢

Thank you to everyone who took the time to learn about the proposed fireworks ordinance changes, attend the public hearing, submit comments, or share your thoughts with County Council members.

Last night, the Whatcom County Council voted not to take action on the proposed ordinance at this time. Instead, the Council indicated that the conversation will continue through a future Committee of the Whole discussion and by engaging with stakeholders and community members before moving forward.

We view this as a positive step that creates additional opportunities for community input and dialogue on an issue that affects residents, businesses, visitors, public safety, and the environment.

As this conversation continues, we encourage everyone to stay engaged. Whether you support changes to the current fireworks regulations, oppose them, or have ideas for potential solutions, your perspective matters.

The Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce would also like to hear from you. Feel free to reach out and share your thoughts so we can better understand the perspectives of our community.
