Birds of a Feather
Inuit Carvings of Birds
Dear Friends of Indigena,
Birds, like many animals of the north, are an important part of Inuit life. While most birds fly south during the winter months, ravens (tulugaq in Inuktuit), snowy owls (ookpik), and rock ptarmigans (aqiggivik) remain year long. It's no wonder that these three species are common motifs in Inuit art and story.
We have collected this selection of Inuit carvings and prints that feature different birds of the north. Please be in touch with Gallery Indigena in Stratford if you would like one of these birds come home to roost in your Inuit art collection.
Sincerely,
Erla, Doug, and Patti
