Wesleyan Celebrates a Successful Annual Day of Giving

North Carolina Wesleyan College's annual day of giving, A Day for Wesleyan, was a successful day of fundraising to support Bishop students. This event, held on Wednesday, March 31, invited donations from alumni, friends of the College, faculty and staff to participate in the College-wide efforts. Overall the College raised $85,367 from 410 donors, more than double last year's event total and a 32% increase in donors.

Every gift goes towards advancing the educational experiences of all students, investing in new technologies for learning, allowing students to grow into their passions and helping build Wesleyan's future. Read more.
ActOne Group Provides Career Development Services for NCWC Students

North Carolina Wesleyan College has developed an agreement with the ActOne Group (ActOne), a global workforce solutions leader based in California with operations in North Carolina, to provide extensive career development services for current students and alumni. Janice Bryant Howroyd, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the ActOne Group, is a native of Tarboro, NC and a NC Wesleyan Board Member.

At no cost to the College, ActOne's team of professionals will work alongside NC Wesleyan's career services department to enhance internships, career development, and job placement for Wesleyan students and graduates. The College will allocate office space to the ActOne team so they can fully connect with staff and provide students with hands-on career guidance and advice. This partnership will provide students with access to a fully-dedicated team of staffing professionals, career counselors, talent advisors and trainers on campus. In addition, ActOne will work with area organizations to meet their talent acquisition goals. Implementation of this initiative is expected by summer 2021. Read more.
NCWC Recognized by Exercise is Medicine®
for Efforts to Create Culture of Wellness

North Carolina Wesleyan College is one of only 153 colleges and universities around the world to be honored by Exercise is Medicine® for its efforts to create a culture of wellness on campus. Programs and promotions such as the physically active, virtual scavenger hunt, the Exercise is Medicine® on Campus (EIM-OC) Mascot Challenge and other campus wellness initiatives helped NCWC earn Silver level from the EIM-OC program for the second year in a row. NC Wesleyan also obtained EIM's COVID Conqueror badge, a new honor given to campuses that demonstrated creative adaptations to physical activity programming during the COVID-19 pandemic. Read more.

Bobbie Darnell Jones '89 was recently featured by Education NC. in a series documenting the history of the Winton Triangle community and the C.S. Brown School. Read the series. Bobbie is the mayor of the Town of Princeville and the principal of C.S. Brown High School STEM. Bobbie graduated from North Carolina Wesleyan College in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in English and Business Administration.
Leah Hill '02 recently received the Wesleyan Service Award for volunteering her support of the NC Wesleyan College Presidential Advisory Council to improve the diversity and inclusion efforts at the College. Leah is Director of Financial Aid at NC Wesleyan College. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology from North Carolina Wesleyan in 2002.
Stephany J. Broadus '20 was named WRAL's Teacher of the Week for March 24, 2021. She is a first year teacher in Roanoke Rapids, NC. After losing her job in 2019, Stephany returned to North Carolina Wesleyan College to earn her degree. She graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics.
Eugene M. Jordan II '77 will transition into the new role as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Old Point Financial Corporation. He has served as the President and CEO of Old Point Trust for the past 19 years and as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the past 2 1/2 years. Gene graduated from NC Wesleyan College in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He earned his Juris Doctor from Campbell University.
Clayton W. Glover '19 was recently sworn in as Captain with the Enfield Police Department. A Nash County native, Clayton is a US Navy veteran. He has more than 10 years experience in law enforcement. Clayton is a 2019 North Carolina Wesleyan College Adult & Professional Studies graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. He is currently working on his masters in management from Harvard University.

Diana Lynn Hock Carroll '15, age 45, of Providence Forge, VA passed away suddenly March 18, 2021. She had a passion for children. She loved to teach children in every way: school, soccer, and the swim team. Diana was very active in her church and loved camping with her family and friends. Diana graduated from North Carolina Wesleyan College in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Educational Studies. She is survived by her husband, five children, two grandchildren, her parents, one brother, one sister, father-in-law and a niece and nephew.
Reserve Your Wesleyan Memorial Brick
Students, organizations, parents, alumni, and community supporters now have the opportunity to inscribe their names at North Carolina Wesleyan College. The Office of Advancement is selling bricks to be placed at the entrance located at the south end of the Pearsall Library addition, or at the Leon Russell Chapel entrance. Your brick will be a permanent tribute on the NCWC campus and a special way to support NCWC.
