Bishop Canevin High School | OCTOBER 2019
From Principal Michael Joyce

During October change is evident all around us. That mantra applies to Bishop Canevin and inspired the headline "It's a New Day" that appeared in our recent InCommunity Magazine Spotlight article. The debut of our Innovation Lab and Model Classroom, and plans to unveil the Michael Maloney Fitness Center and Broadcast Studio send a resounding message that Bishop Canevin is thriving and here to stay.

This month is a perfect opportunity to demonstrate to past and future Crusaders our intentions. On Monday, over 100 golfers supported our 18th annual Crusader Classic Golf Outing. This Sunday, we will welcome back Bishop Canevin alumni for our Sports Hall of Fame Induction. For prospective students and their families, we hosted our annual Open House and Mass in the Grotto this past Sunday and have our Crusader for a Day event coming up next Thursday. We can't wait for the opportunity to showcase our school to new families and to share with our current Crusaders the accomplishments, accolades, and most significantly pride that Bishop Canevin alum have towards their alma mater.

Announcing the Michael Maloney '72 Fitness Center Drive
Lead gift covers nearly 60% of the $185,000 renovation, just $76,000 needed to fully fund the renovation
Bishop Canevin High School has been given a very generous donation to create a fitness center in honor of Michael Maloney ’72.
The gift was given by Patty Gorski in memory of her brother. She fondly recalls “ Michael enjoyed football, basketball and track and field.” Classmate Andy Aloe agreed. “Michael would be pleased to help today’s students in this way.”
The 1,400 square-foot fitness center will be housed in renovated space just off the school’s main entrance, near the gymnasium. “We are committed to upgrading our facilities,” said Mr. Michael Joyce, Principal. “Athletes and students in physical education classes will both benefit.”
The renovated room will be air-conditioned. Plans include rubber flooring suitable for weights and fitness, new exterior windows, LED lighting, drywall, and oak and glass entry doors. “This will benefit the entire student body,” echoed Mr. Dale Checketts, Bishop Canevin’s Athletic Director. Introducing Our New Admissions Director
Meet Madeleine Doyle!
My name is Madeleine Doyle and I’m the new Admissions Director at Bishop Canevin! Since being here I've already experienced the unique impact of our welcoming and close-knit community. I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this team and to get to know all of our students and families better.

A little background about me, I studied at the Franciscan University of Steubenville and I hold a degree in Marketing. I am originally from Northern Virginia but have lived in Zelienople PA for the past seven years. I have four little sisters, am an avid reader and an enthusiastic coffee drinker.

I’m so excited to be a part of Bishop Canevin because I firmly believe in the opportunities available to students for their academic growth, spiritual formation and character development.

If you know of a grade school student interested in attending Bishop Canevin High School, please encourage them to participate in our Shadow A Crusader program. This allows students in grades 8-11 to shadow a current Bishop Canevin student for a school day. Learn more .
