It is with a great sense of pride, appreciation, and gratitude that I proudly share that Bishop Canevin raised more than $58,000 on its inaugural Giving Day! The funds raised will have a profound effect on both our school and our current families, many of whom have been impacted by the economic realities of the pandemic. Equally significant is this campaign represented the very best of the entire Bishop Canevin community while providing another emphatic example of our mission prevailing throughout difficult times. Support from nearly 400 alumni, friends, faculty, parents, and students reinforced the "We're in this together" spirit that has allowed Bishop Canevin to not only sustain during this period, but flourish. The Giving Day platform and coordinated social media effort allowed our supporters to hear from individuals significant to Bishop Canevin's history while providing them with an opportunity to express their appreciation on the impact these people had on their lives beyond Canevin.
The extensive outreach of this initiative reinforced to our current students the continued pride, attachment, and belonging graduates throughout all eras of Bishop Canevin's history associate with their school. Your continued support and commitment after graduating helps current students appreciate the opportunity and sacrifice others are making to provide them with a BC experience. Conversely the initiative helped us spread the achievements and accomplishments of our current student body so that our alumni understand the high standard previously set continues to be met and elevated.
The end of this month concludes what was one of the most significant marking periods in school history. With our entire school community embracing a "Person for Others" mentality we are proud to announce that we have met in person every day this school year. Academically, we inducted 11 new students into the prestigious National Honor Society and increased our number of Honor Roll qualifiers and perfect attendees despite the many challenges that have been presented. We continue to represent BC with distinction outside of the classroom as well. Crusader Athletics just concluded one of the most successful girl's soccer seasons in school history, have a volleyball team on a record setting section winning streak that is poised for a fourth consecutive WPIAL title, and a football team that has restored team and school pride with a dynamic coaching staff, committed players, and chance at a winning season. Our Academic Team also took first place in KDKA's Hometown High Q's first game of the season.
These accomplishments, recognitions, and manner in which we conduct ourselves continue to serve notice to new families who have taken an increased interest in Bishop Canevin. Our freshman class is 20% larger than 2019-20 and our overall student body has grown 7% in the past year. Embracing the words of Pope Francis, "Let no one think this invitation is not meant for him or her.We look forward to welcoming future Crusaders onto our beautiful campus when we host our Open House this Sunday, November 1.
Please know the continued health and well being of you and your families continue to be in our prayers and that your impact and role in our school's continued success is greatly appreciated.
