Dear BCHS families,

Please know how appreciative I am of your entrusting your children to us during these crucial years of their development. At this Advent time of year, as we prepare to experience the coming of Jesus in a new and glorious way, I pray for a blessed Christmas for all of our school families, faculty and staff families, and all of the individuals who make Bishop Chatard a beacon of light and hope to so many.

May the peace of Christ reign in your hearts!

A message from Principal Joe Hansen
Below you will find key dates from our 2020-2021 Bishop Chatard school calendar. This calendar is similar to last year’s calendar.
In 2020 we begin school on a Thursday and will complete the year before Memorial Day. Fall Break will remain a one-week break. Nearly 180 families responded to our survey, with 55% preferring the weeklong Fall Break to a two-day Fall Break. Continue reading here...

BCHS Christmas Concert
A Christmas Concert featuring all ensembles will be held on Friday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. in the varsity gym. In this busy time of the year, it's ever-so easy to lose sight of the reason for this season. We invite you to take a break from all the "hustle and bustle," and bring your family to witness our BCHS musicians deliver that reason - the sound of Christmas in song! Admission is free and refreshments will be available.
New Class: Fifth Period Concert Band
Beginning the second semester of the 2019-2020 school year, an additional section of Concert Band will be offered during 5th period. If your student has been a former member of the band program here at BCHS, or was involved in band prior to attending BCHS, consider joining us for the next semester.
5th period Concert Band does NOT require your student to attend zero period rehearsals (still offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7 - 7:45 a.m.) Current members can switch into 5th period if desired. Students are advised to see their guidance counselor to adjust their schedules and join for the next semester! If you have any questions, please email Director of Music, Mr. Mark Duray at mduray@bishopchatard.org.

Serve and Support During the Holidays
Christian Service Program information for Freshman Parents
As part of the State of Indiana's new Graduation Pathways program, our Christian Service Program has undergone a change impacting the class of 2023 only. The next four editions of the parent newsletter will highlight a different portion of the new Christian Service Program for the class of 2023.
This week, the focus is on the current freshmen year requirement. Jesus began his service at home with the Holy Family, and our freshmen begin their journey in the same way. Everyone's life is busy: sports, school, work, etc. Intentional time with family members isn't always the easiest to come by.
Therefore, each first-year student will form an intentional relationship with a member of his/her immediate family and serve with that individual in a meaningful way for a minimum of 10 hours. Projects range from tutoring a sibling to helping a parent/guardian with a long-neglected home improvement project. We want students to be talking to their family members, sharing about their daily lives, hopes and struggles. Since the hours need to be completed by Jan. 23rd, Christmas break is the perfect time to complete this service experience! The goal of our entire Christian Service Program is forming intentional relationships through self reflection and coming to know others and God. We want our students to grow in responsibility, while trusting in their families throughout their high school experience.
In the next parent newsletter, we will be discussing next year's sophomore Christian Service requirement: service in the faith community.
