Christian Service Program information for Freshman Parents
As part of the State of Indiana's new Graduation Pathways program, our Christian Service Program has undergone a change impacting the class of 2023 only. This week, the focus is on the requirement our current freshmen will have two years from now.
In his public ministry, Jesus focused his attention on serving the poor and marginalized of society. When they are Juniors, therefore, members of the class of 2023 must each spend 20 hours performing Christian Service that falls into the “Life and Dignity of the Human Person” principle of Catholic Social Teaching by directly serving the "poor or marginalized" of their local community.
Examples of Christian service would include serving those experiencing homelessness, food pantries, soup kitchens, assisted living communities, prisons, and hospitals. All hours must be completed at one organization and the supervisor must be someone other than a relative.
I n the next parent newsletter, we will be discussing the 2022-2023 school year's senior Christian Service requirement: Living out Catholic Social Teaching.
Reminder: The Freshman Christian Service hour verification form is due to Seminar A teachers by Jan. 23. Click here for more information!
