Update from the Standing Committee
Since we last updated the Diocese, the Standing Committee has been busy preparing for the start of our Nominating and Search process. You know that we appointed both a Nominating/Search Committee and a Transition Committee, and below you'll find a reminder of what each will be doing. We have added several folks to the committees: new members, and chaplains for both. You will find the updated committee listing

We have begun working with our replacement Search Consultant, the Rev. T. Conrad Selnick. Conrad is a priest of 35 years with a great deal of experience in the wider church, both in parishes and in seminaries. We are grateful he was willing to step forward to assist us after our former consultant resigned. And an interesting note about him: his church experience is quite varied, as his wife, the Rev. Elizabeth Eaton, is the Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, our partners in Called to Common Mission.
We will formally begin our search process with a retreat on October 5-6 at Chanco on the James. The Standing Committee will present Charges to both Committees, we will commission the members of the Committees with Eucharist, and their work will begin. We ask that you continue to pray for the future of our Diocese, as we work together to examine who we are, what God is calling us to do, and who it is that the Spirit will bring to join us in our mission of being the branch of the Jesus movement in Southern Virginia. Our thanks to Chanco's leadership for hosting our groups there.
In a short time, you will be invited to be a part of the process. Please be on the lookout for further information; there will be a survey that seeks your input and thoughts about our future.
A description of what each committee will do:
- The Nomination/Search Committee interviews and selects candidates to present to Standing Committee for nomination as the next Bishop of Southern Virginia.
- The Transition Committee's key responsibilities include walkabouts, assist in the election process, ordination & consecration in conjunction with the Diocesan Liturgical Commission, and pastoral care of those in the process.
