This Sunday - September 20 - Diocese-wide service with Bishop Taylor.
Bishop John Harvey Taylor and Canon Kathy O’Connor will offer a diocese-wide virtual worship service at 10 a.m. this Sunday, Sept. 20, with the express purpose of giving parochial clergy a break from planning virtual services for their congregations, and to give the bishop an opportunity to speak to the entire diocese. The service, to be conducted in English and Spanish, will be live-streamed from St. Paul’s Commons with the support of Provost Frank Alton and the altar guild of St. Athanasius’ Church.

The service will be livestreamed on Bishop Taylor’s Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/john.h.taylor.9, Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles
Please note also - there will be no outdoor distribution of the Body of Christ (Communion Under Special Circumstances) on Sunday morning at St. Francis. We'll see you all next week!
Be together - 5 days a week, as well as Sundays.
Morning prayer twice-weekly, led by Paula+, and Compline three times per week, led by Jude+ and a team of lay leaders. Each service includes the traditional service, plus words from the leader, and explanations of the readings. They are prayerful and quiet, a far cry from the turmoil of the world, and medicine to help us heal and be comforted and inspired.

News from the Episcopal Church Women (ECW)
All women are automatically a member of the ECW at St. Francis.
First of all, I really miss seeing so many of you at church! Let’s pray we can come together soon.
Several weeks ago, Elaine Mistele was doing her kitchen check and discovered that our freezer was not cold. She called me because the ECW has had a “kitchen replacement” fund. This fund has been made possible by the hard work and tremendous support by many parish members during our major fundraiser, the Antiques show and sale.
After some research, we were able to purchase a new unit and have the old one removed.
Many thanks to all who helped to make this possible.
Thank you,
Anna Eakins, ECW co-President

Sunday's Sermon

Click here to read The Episcopal News Update - and see below for more on the report of Bishop Curry's 'Word to the Church'.
What Did Jesus Do?
Watch and read the text of Presiding Bishop Curry's word to the church in which he cites Scripture to discuss what Jesus did during his time that can guide his 21st century followers to bear witness in today’s world. Those teachings are especially relevant, Curry said, during the ongoing pandemic and this “time of great divisions.”

“Divisions that are deep, dangerous and potentially injurious to democracy,” Curry added. “What is the role of the church in the context of an election being held in a time such as this? What is our role as individual followers of Jesus Christ committed to his way of love in such a time as this?”
