Weeks 1 + 2

How we care for our physical body impacts other aspects of our wellness, such as our emotional wellbeing. As you are studying for Step 1, it’s understandable to struggle with finding time to focus on your physical health.

Below are some resources and activities you can try to improve nutrition and physical wellness.

If you try one of these activities, let us know what you think here for a chance to win a $25 Grubhub gift card!

Getting Started

  • Decide what you want. Do you want to practice alone, find a buddy or join a class?Start slowly. Instead of going from 0 to 100, take baby steps to add an activity into your schedule.
  • Create a routine. Write it down somewhere to remind you.
  • Reflect. What feels good, both physically and emotionally? What isn’t working? Once you know this, adjust your routine as needed.

Hike to Hiebert

Stair climbing has a lot of benefits including improved cognitive performance and feeling more energized (Stenling, Moylan, Fulton, & Machado, 2019).

This week, try taking the stairs instead of the elevator whenever you can.

If you're looking for motivation, Hike to Hiebert every Thursday with Tiffany (tswong@bu.edu), SAO Wellbeing Coordinator, at noon starting March 16.

All levels of experience are welcome. Wear comfortable clothing and running shoes.

Grab a group of friends and check out Fuller Gym

Fuller Gym is free and open to all BUMC students, staff, and faculty from 4-9 p.m. daily except Tuesdays.

Gather a group of friends to play pick-up volleyball, basketball, or soccer.

Join the Run Club

Having a group can help motivate us to invest the time we want into our physical wellness. Join the Run Club on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. in the Garden next to the MSR. Stay up-to-date on the Run Club GroupMe.

Thoughtful Eating Toolkit

Sargent Choice Nutrition Center promotes healthy eating for BU students. Check out their toolkit including Meal Planning, Smart Snacking, Budget Friendly Shopping List and more.

Did you know: If you complete one of their workshops, you can receive one free individual nutrition session with one of their expert dietitians!

Online Yoga Mondays 3pm

Health Promotion & Prevention offers yoga that combines breathwork with gentle, self-paced movement to encourage calmness and increase resilience when stressed.

Students must use their BU email address to register. These sessions are offered via zoom, and you can register here! Classes are Mondays at 3 p.m. starting March 20th.
