To find the Greenbelt Office in Blydenburgh Park: from Route 25-25A in Smithtown, go south on Brooksite Dr.; at next light (New Mill Rd.), turn right to park entrance at end of road. From Route 347, find Brooksite Dr. between the 347-454 junction and Rt. 111; head north on Brooksite to New Mill Rd.; go left to the park. Follow the paved path at the west end of the lot to the Blydenburgh-Weld House.

Here are the hikes that are scheduled for November 10th through November 28th.

Wed. Nov. 10 - SOUTH HAVEN SHUFFLE: 1:30 PM - 3 miles - easy - flat - Info: Karen, 631-929-6590, before 8 PM

Take an afternoon walk in the pine barrens of this Suffolk County park on the Carman's River; rain cancels; entrance is on Victory Ave., north side of NY 27 between Exits 57 and 58.

Join us as we continue to spruce up our L.I. Trail, this time from Old Dock Rd. to St. Johnland Rd.; bring clippers, loppers, work gloves and water; many hands and good company make light work; meet at the end of Old Dock Road, Kings Park.

Sun. Nov. 14 -VOLUNTEER MAINTENANCE EVENT ON THE NASSAU SUFFOLK TRAIL:

Help us rehabilitate and "weather proof" the northern terminus of the Nassau Suffolk Trail. Bring work-gloves, water and lunch/snack. We will meet in the CSH State Park parking lot at 9:00am.

Join the Friends of Massapequa Preserve on a late afternoon walk through the tranquil forests and along the streams, ponds and wetlands of this beautiful 423-acre preserve; children 10 or older welcome; rain cancels; from NY 27, take Park Blvd. north under Massapequa Park LIRR station, then immediate left onto Front. Street; go 4 blocks west to Lake Shore Drive, then right to Brady Park, � block ahead; meet at picnic tables.


Thurs. Nov. 18 - REDISCOVER THE RED DOT TRAIL: 9:30 AM - 5 to 6 miles - hilly - Info: George, 516-249-5041.


Join us for a walk on the 'Red Dot' side of West Hills County Park; while most walk the wonderful Walt Whitman Trail, let's dare to be different for once and take a loop on the Red Dot Trail at the north end of the park; bring water; rain cancels; take Round Swamp Rd. north from the L.I.E. Exit 48 or No. St. Pky. Exit 39 to High Hold Drive; turn right and proceed up the hill to parking area on the left side of road.

Walk the L.I. Trail from the headwaters of the Nissequogue River to the headwaters of the Connetquot, up and over the Ronkonkoma Moraine; early hills, then an easy walk; bring water; rain cancels; meet at Lakeland County Park (L.I.E. Exit 58, south on Old Nichols Rd. to Johnson Ave., left to park; or L.I.E. Exit 59, south on Ocean Ave. to Johnson, right to park).

Enjoy the early morning sunshine and fresh air on a walk at Caleb Smith State Park Preserve; explore its many different habitats, including freshwater wetlands, ponds, streams, fields and upland woods; bring water and snack; from Sunken Meadow Pky. Exit SM3, go east on Jericho Turnpike (NY 25) three miles to park entrance on left (Empire Pass or $8.00 fee); rain or shine; distance may vary depending on conditions.

Walk off the turkey and trimmings on the trails instead of inside the malls! Start the Walt Whitman loop in Suffolk, then head west to the Nassau-Suffolk Trail, loop around in Nassau's Plainview area, and head back across the county border to complete the Whitman loop; hiking experience recommended; bring water and snacks; from L.I.E. Exit 49 or No. St. Pky. Exit 40, go north on NY 110; a mile north of the parkway, turn left at sign for Whitman Birthplace Hist.
