THE BIXBY BULLETIN

July 2026

Director's Dispatch

Hello and Happy July!

Seems that summer has made its presence known over the last few weeks with the warmer weather and sunny days. As a new Vermonter, I have enjoyed being able to get out and find some new places to dip my toes in cool water and soak up the sun.

Summers are the busiest season at every public library. We welcome more people during this season than any other time of the year. From families to tourists to people just looking to cool off, the library is the place to be in the summer. This is the time for our reading challenges, fun programs for all ages, Art Day Fridays, and much more. Taking a break at the library during the summer is free, cool (literally in our designated cooling rooms), easy, and fun. Come check us out—and maybe even check out a book or two while you're here.

July also brings us a brand new staff member. Read more about Olivia in our "What's New" section.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer, and we look forward to seeing you at the Bixby!

What's New?

Welcome Olivia!

Olivia Brooks

We at the Bixby are so excited to welcome our new Children and Youth Services Librarian, Olivia Brooks. Olivia is likely a familiar face to many of you, as she is a lifelong Vergennes resident.

Olivia spent countless hours at the Bixby growing up and has many fond memories of her own Children’s Librarian, Ms. Rachel. Olivia is a recent graduate of the University of Vermont with a degree in anthropology and religion. Her academic and professional work has always centered around the people, places, and communities of the state of Vermont.

Olivia is passionate about helping youth to develop a sense of place in their community and helping them grow in their love for literature. When not reading, writing, or baking, Olivia is most often found spending time with her two sisters or deep in genealogical research.

Olivia will be jumping in headfirst to her new position by leading her first storytime this Friday, July 10th, at 10:30 am.

Please say hello to Olivia and welcome her to the Bixby next time you stop by. Olivia can be reached at olivia.brooks@bixbylibrary.org.

Unearth a Story: Adult and Young Adult Summer Reading Challenge

Adults and young adults (ages 14+) are invited to read their way to rewards this summer!

From June 16 through August 15, pick up a fossil-themed bookmark in the library lobby and track your reading progress across six different categories. For each book you finish, scratch off the golden sticker for that category to reveal a hidden fossil and write the author's last name on the shovel.

Once you've completed your bookmark, bring it to the Circulation Desk to be entered into a raffle for one of four $25 Vergennes Green Gift Certificates, redeemable at more than 60 local businesses. Start digging into great books this summer and unearth your next favorite story!
