MCLAREN NORTHERN MICHIGAN NEW PRIMARY CARE PROVIDER IN PETOSKEY
Primary Care Provider Carolyn Wiese, PA-C, has joined McLaren Northern Michigan-Mitchell Park Family Medicine, located at 2390 E. Mitchell Park Drive, Suite D in Petoskey.
 
Carolyn received her Master of Science in Medicine from Western Michigan University.  She came to McLaren Northern Michigan from Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine.  She also teaches Physician Assistant board review courses and was an adjunct professor at the University of New England during the time she lived in Maine.
 
Practicing primary care medicine allows Carolyn to get to know not just her patients' health, but their interests, challenges and struggles.  More

NORTH CENTRAL CELEBRATING 60TH ANNIVERSARY IN 2018
2018 marks North Central Michigan College's 60th year of ensuring local access to quality higher education for this community's citizens.  North Central is part and parcel of our collective heritage and history.  
 
Celebrations include an entertaining and informative trip down memory lane through a series of six monthly magazine inserts and videos.  From January through June, the College will examine one decade at a time, taking an amusing look at what was happening during that decade.
 
Watch for videos on TV and social media and printed inserts in the Petoskey News-Review each month, celebrating a decade of North Central's history.  More 
CHAR-EM UNITED WAY FUNDING AVAILABLE
CALL FOR LETTER OF INTENT
Char-Em United Way's 2018 community investment process is 
underway with a call for letters of intent to apply.  Non-profit agencies which provide programs and services meeting the health and human service needs of Charlevoix and Emmet County residents are encouraged to apply.
 
Applications can be requested by contacting United Way at 231.487.1006 or info@charemunitedway.org.  Letters of intent will be reviewed and invitations to apply for a grant will be emailed the week of February 5th.  For those invited to apply for general grant funding, applications are due to Char-Em United Way on March 23, 2018.  "We are very excited to announce this year's funding availability," states Lorraine Manary, United Way CEO.  More   
CAMP DAGGETT SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION BEGINS JANUARY 4
Registration opens for Camp Daggett summer camp on January 4, 2018.  Applications for 2018 summer camp will be mailed out to 2017 summer campers and 2017 wait-listed campers on January 2, 2018.  Applications will be delivered to local schools and Chambers of Commerce in Emmet and Charlevoix counties on January 4, 2018.
 
The 2018 Summer Camp Application will be available on the website January 16, 2018.  Please download and print application, so that a completed hard copy can be mailed to Camp Daggett with your deposit.  Please check availability of weeks below before considering weeks to register.  Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.  Applications must be downloaded, printed and mailed to Camp Daggett with payment.

NOTED MULTICULTURAL EXPERT TO SPEAK AT NORTH CENTRAL
Dr. David Pilgrim, one of this country's leading experts on multiculturalism, diversity and race relations, will speak at North Central Michigan College on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, as part of the College's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day activities. The lecture will be at 12:15pm in the cafeteria on the Petoskey campus.
 
Dr. Pilgrim is best known as the founder and curator of the Jim Crow Museum, a 5,000-piece collection of racist artifacts located at Ferris State University.  The museum uses objects of intolerance to teach tolerance.  Dr. Pilgrim's writings, many found on the museum's web site (ferris.edu/jimcrow), are used by scholars, students and civil rights workers to better understand historical and contemporary expressions of racism.  More

NORTH CENTRAL OFFERS FREE LEAN AGRICULTURE SERIES
North Central Michigan College's Corporate and Community Education (CCE) department is offering four free Lean Agriculture workshops on Tuesdays, starting January 16 from 6pm to 8pm.  The workshops will be in Room 536 of the Student and Community Resource Center, and will be led by Jim Tisdale, CCE director.
 
Introductions to Lean Agriculture, Tuesday, January 16, will focus on the benefits of Lean and how using these business strategies can provide a real impact to your bottom line.  Farming is a business and using proven approaches to improve your farming ledger is time well spent.  Jim will discuss where Lean came from and how it has become so widespread across so many industries.  More
