CEO Cummings, Dr. Cornacchia, Vyzas ‘81
to be feted at
Black & Gold Golf Classic
The 7th Annual Black & Gold Golf Classic to be held on Thursday, September 17th at The Essex County Country Club will feature the usual festivities with an added dose of tributes to a quartet of men who have demonstrated above-and-beyond service to others in their support of Hudson Catholic High School.

The day will kick off with lunch at 12pm, followed by a shotgun start to the golf classic at 1:30pm. Upon completion of the round, all will gather for a 6pm Cocktail Hour and Dinner. Honors will be awarded at the evening session.

Kevin Cummings, CEO of Investors Bank, the state’s largest bank, will receive the Hero of Hudson Catholic Award, along with Vince Vyzas ’81. This award is presented to individuals who have made a significant impact on Hudson Catholic by going above and beyond the call of duty. In their case, these gentlemen marshaled HCRHS through the PPP Loan (convertible to a grant) process in the spring, enabling the school to avert a financial crisis due to the impact of the pandemic on tuition payments.

Dr. Eugene Cornacchia, PhD, President, will receive the Golden Service Award on behalf of St. Peter’s University, given to those who display exceptional service to the Hudson Catholic and Jersey City communities. SPU.has been a valued partner to our school over the many years, evidenced by the hundreds who call both schools their alma mater. In addition, SPU offers the Dual Enrollment Program in which HC Honors students take college credit courses and can be awarded an SPU Associates Degree at HC commencement.

The John P. Higgins Award is given to individuals who reflect John’s life and values -- active involvement in the Hudson Catholic community, loyal support, attendance at school-related events, and celebrating the academic successes of our students. This year’s honoree is Terry Matthews, 36-year member of our faculty and administration, and newly-named Principal of Hudson Catholic.

To request an event brochure, join in the activities, or simply come out for dinner to add your personal presence to support the honorees, contact Jill Cypher at jcypher@hudsoncatholic.org or 201-332-5970 x118.
