Black Bear Euthanized in Sheridan

Game and Fish wildlife managers euthanized an approximately six-year-old female black bear in Sheridan on the morning of May 26, 2023. Personnel had responded to multiple reports of the bear in the neighborhood near Emerson Park on the evening of May 25 and morning of May 26. 


At approximately 9:45 a.m. on May 26, personnel located the bear near Edwards Drive, where it went up a tree in a residential yard. Once in the tree, personnel could see the bear had an ear tag, indicating it had been caught and relocated previously. The decision was then made to euthanize it.

One-Of-A-Kind Saddle Will Be Auctioned to Help Local Family

For over 30 years, Buck Brannaman has been working with horses and their owners through clinics. Teaching those with horses how to properly handle and train them. 


Today, Brannaman and his clinics are leading practitioners of handling horses based on classical concepts from the California vaquero tradition; working with the horse’s nature. By understanding how horses think and communicate, people learn how to train the horse to accept humans and work confidently and responsively.

Sheridan High School Graduation Held on Sunday

Over 200 seniors graduated from Sheridan High School on Sunday, May 28. The ceremony was held on the SHS football field, and the stands were packed with parents and well-wishers.


The class motto was, “When life gives you lemons, eat them, that’s free food,” and many of the speakers talked about making the life you want after high school.


Cameron Reckard was one of the salutatorians, and president of the senior class. He performed the Passing of the Brand ceremony, in which he passed the branding iron to Presley Granum, the president of the junior class.

Evening Temporary Closures on Northeast Entrance Road in Yellowstone National Park

A short section of Yellowstone National Park’s Northeast Entrance Road in Lamar Canyon will temporarily close from 7 to 9 pm on June 5, 7, 8, 12, 14 and 15. According to the Park Service, the segment of road will be closed in the evenings on the aforementioned dates so that construction crews can conduct safe blasting operations. During the historic flood last year in Yellowstone, high water eroded the slope below the section of road rendering it not safe for use.

Tongue River (NLI) / Troopers and Home Saturday / Rockies fall at Arizona

TR (NLI) – A recent Tongue River high school volleyball graduate will continue the sport she enjoys at the college level.


Athena Stanton has signed her national letter of intent to play volleyball at Mount Marty University, in Yankton, South Dakota.


The last three seasons she has played varsity for the Lady Eagles and last year she helped them to a 3rd place finish at the 2A state tournament. Stanton says the sport to her can sometimes be therapeutic.
