Black Forest Road

Construction Update

Sept. 26, 2022

Crews install temporary shoring along the west side of the bridge over Cottonwood Creek. The project will replace the existing bridge with separate northbound and southbound structures.

Two-night closure this week

Black Forest Road will be closed in both directions between Vollmer and Cowpoke roads overnight Wednesday, Sept. 28 and Thursday, Sept. 29 for essential utility work across the roadway. The road will be closed at 7 p.m. each night, and reopened by 6 a.m. the following morning. All operations are resource and weather dependent.

During this closure, northbound Black Forest Road traffic will be detoured via Vollmer Road to westbound Cowpoke Road and back to Black Forest Road. Southbound traffic will be detoured on eastbound Cowpoke Road to southbound Vollmer Road and back to Black Forest Road.

A second southbound detour option will also be available to access Woodmen Road via westbound Cowpoke Road to southbound Tutt Boulevard.

The project also will see a significant milestone on Thursday with the placement of the first concrete girders on the new southbound Black Forest Road bridge over Cottonwood Creek. While this daytime work will be outside the roadway, motorists should expect occasional flagging operations and other minor traffic impacts or short delays.
